7/10. Fantastic performances, really great visuals and a haunting score. Really liked the ending as well. A whole star is taken off for the first 5 minutes of essentially being a porno revolved around 80 year old fat women.

I love movies, especially drama and horror movies! And also, I'm a big fan of TV shows.

6/10 - Intriguing, but ultimately, I needed more than what was given. Seems like the director was trying to be like David Lynch, but fell short. I didn't care for the ending, which didn't leave me with any great emotion.

6/10. Suspenseful, beautifully shot, and had some great acting. But there were moments that were just odd. I certainly didn't need to see fat ugly naked women dancing in the opening credits. Christ .

7/10. Fantastic performances, really great visuals and a haunting score. Really liked the ending as well. A whole star is taken off for the first 5 minute "look at the naked 80 year women and their vaginas" bullshit. I just watched it yesterday. WTF? What was the point of that and what was the point of doing it for so long?

I can be a very literal person.
I remember when I was in school and we were assigned books, I usually hated them. I'm not a real big fan of "literature" type of stuff. I hated trying to figure out what everything represented. I don't mind it in movies or a TV show, but I've always found it pretty painful and books.
As Amy Adams's character is reading the manuscript, I assumed that the book was based on her either his or her life. I think that probably had a lot to do with the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal played multiple character. Initially, I had thought that maybe it was a retelling of his first marriage. I thought that maybe he was writing about something he actually experienced to explain to Amy Adams why he was the way he was – and attempt to either get her to understand him better or feel guilty. One of my other theories was that the daughter was Amy Adams and that maybe she was assaulted as a kid and he was writing about that to hurt her. I didn't even realize that it was all fiction for a while. Michael Shannon's character called him Tony instead of Ed and the lightbulb went off. Plus, when both his wife and daughter are found dead it out my second theory. Then, like normal people I tried to figure out who each character was supposed to represent, the symbolism of it all, etc. I don't know why, but that enhanced my experience.
That ending was awesome too. The opening however, was absolutely ridiculous, unnecessary, and frankly gross.
