warning: you may be somewhat alarmed and throw certain things out from your kitchen after what you find out when you watch the movie.
Highly recommend it though. 9/10 from me.

It felt reminiscent of Michael Clayton by way of Erin Brockovich. Or vice versa. The story does sound fascinating if still frustrating.

Is it really that chilling or is it just slow and boring like michael clayton (which gave me one the best naps in a movie theater I've ever had)?

Of course part of it may be my history of being a corporate lawyer and having flashbacks throughout the movie but I think most of it will be just as chilling for non lawyers as well. Its very disturbing actually.

For me its been so long since I saw Erin Brockovich that I cant really compare and this one felt more powerful to me than Michael Clayton. Maybe becuase its true? After seeing the movie I went home and did some research on it and it really makes one upset to learn this story. I didnt know about it before. Horrible.

Reminds me of the John Travolta movie A Civil Action, but hopefully better.

My favorite part in the trailer is when that guy says “That’s like saying ‘what if I swallowed a tire?’”
The funniest line I’ve heard in a long time.

Very good movie. I foind mydelf alittle bit increduloua amdnfrustrated at how ogstinate dupont was/is and also the herd mentality on their behalf. Kind of qlarming. But morewo, the movie hust had a good way of staying matter of fact while conveying the compelling nqture of the story.

All I can remember are superhero movies for the last 4 - 5 years sprinkled in with random animated Disney films, some horror and popcorn big budget blockbuster action films.

My brain is numb from marvel and the conjuring movies. I want some good old fashioned police and political thrillers. But not tinker tailor soldier spy that movie was terrible. I liked Den Of Thieves, 21 Bridges, Official Secrets, and this one.

is Mark Ruffalo doing his hammy routine?. His performance in Dark Waters is quite subtle—there is nothing theatrical about it at all.

I agree with Nora— Dark Waters is indeed "chilling," or haunting, and a very good movie. It reminds me of the Best Picture recipient Spotlight from four years ago, a mystery unfolding to expose an enormous societal scandal and its powerful concealment. But Dark Waters is quieter than Spotlight and literally darker. Director Todd Haynes' decision to film nearly every daylight scene in extremely overcast conditions—or at least to create that appearance—sometimes seems a bit much, but that decision also never fails to work. Indeed, what makes Dark Waters especially effective is its willingness to create a solemn look and ominous mood and just stick to them throughout the film. In other words, the movie never tries to be more—or less—than what it is. It just showcases the story and lets it speak for itself, largely avoiding narrative and visual devices that cue banal melodrama. As critic Jake Coyle writes, "Here, [Haynes] has sucked much of the Hollywood out of the social-justice drama, while leaving certain touchstones." Review: ‘Dark Waters’ plunges into ‘forever chemicals’Occasionally, the movie slightly wavers in terms of avoiding melodramatic devices (a gratuitous zoom at one critical juncture stands out), but it never does so too badly or for too long. There are certainly emotional scenes and moments, but they are muted and mature. Almost like "dark water" itself, the movie slowly seeps into cracks and crevices, quietly unfolding at diner tables and banquet halls, in court rooms and living rooms, in cities and countrysides, over the course of years and decades. Mark Ruffalo and Tim Robbins both deliver intricate, realistic, subtle performances, as one might expect, but the surprise is Anne Hathaway as Ruffalo's wife. Sometimes a liability to the films in which she stars, here Hathaway offers a sharp, stern, convincing performance, at once attractive and weary, doubting and supportive, intense and self-contained. In addition to Spotlight, another film from four years ago that one could relate to Dark Waters is the conspiratorial Concussion, starring Will Smith in perhaps his finest performance. But Dark Waters is much better than that middling movie, mainly—again—because of its maturity and general avoidance of melodrama and Hollywood cliché. Moreover, unlike Concussion or Spotlight, the subject matter in Dark Waters is so pervasive that it literally affects almost every human being on the planet. Dark Waters is a serious film for serious people, one that makes you think and feel afterwards while reminding you that gullibility is the genuine partner of greed.

Having viewed Dark Waters again, I will add that the editing and pacing—at once insistent and unhurried—are truly effective. The movie constitutes a social and historical exposé, as well as a film about moral conscience or its absence.
