If he was hiding in the snow, you would never notice him. They make dens in the snow to sleep in. They are so well insulated, they don't begin to shiver unless the temperature drops below -70°c...

I've come across them whilst walking above the winter snowline in the Cairngorms. If they stay still, you wouldn't even know they were there. Occassionally you catch a glimpse of movement out of the corner of your eye. Like you say, amazing camouflage.
