The decision to open the movie up against the Rise of Skywalker doesn't seem to be a good one, with Cats projected for a $14-16 million opening against a $284 million budget. (EDIT: now Wikipedia is saying the budget is $95 million. Who t.f. knows.) The only hope for Universal is if they can pull off a "Greatest Showman". That movie opened to a disappointing $8.8 million, but still managed to rake in $434 million worldwide over the course of its release. It's worth noting, however, that Greatest Showman had a much smaller budget ($84 million), and that with both the production and marketing budgets figured in, $434 million may not be a cause for much celebration at Universal. Really don't know why they thought it was a good idea to spend so much money on a musical.

I really don't understand why anyone who is not a studio executive would care about how much money a movie makes on opening weekend. I see such threads all the time. What is the point?

Star Wars and Cats is like need vs. misery.

Cats are going to bomb the financial district? If cats did that, I would no longer consider them to be our feline masters, but our gods.

I think pitting a musical against a Star Wars movie makes sense. They're radically different audiences, and it worked for La La Land and The Greatest Schemer.
The only question is if anyone wants to see a musical featuring those terrifying CGI monstrosities.

I'm looking forward to both movies, I loved Cats in the theatre and it did run a very long time and the movie looks great. I'm also looking forward to The Rise of Skywalker, I've been a Star Wars fan since the very first movie. I don't understand how anyone can judge a movie they haven't seen and I never listen to critics.

Anyone else noticed the scale seems inconsistent? There’s moments where the props and sets make the characters look like they’re the size of rats, not cats.

I will attend a Taylor Swift concert, but I won't watch this movie...maybe one day on blu ray or so.
