Me: Character driven films.
I don't care much for story.

Characters. If i don't like any of the characters in the film it will ruin the story for me

Probably character driven, but it just depends.

Character drivenI suspect I prefer that over story driven on average. because some movies can have a good story but if you don't have a solid director or cast and the like, it will ultimately fall flat. that's why something like The Departed (2006) is much better than Infernal Affairs (2002). both have a good enough story at their foundation but Infernal Affairs lacks the cast/flair to carry it and ends up being a pretty average/forgettable movie where as The Departed is within my Top 77 movies straight up. and like I always say... it's not about doing something new but taking a idea that's already been done and doing it well. ; this tends to favor characters (and the like) over story if you ask me. so I guess I could say this... story without much else going for it is not going to end up giving us a solid movie at the end of the day where as if you have an average-ish story but other things are going for it, your more likely to get a better movie in general. because movies are a visual medium at the end of the day and things need to click on screen to make it work. it's not like say reading a book for example where story will probably be more crucial since it's just words on a page as you got no visual medium to potentially enhance it. p.s. the OP should have made this into a poll.
I would definitely disagree because I am sure there is a fair amount of movies that are nothing special in the story dept but yet are solid movies overall for me and I am sure there are some movies with a above average story but are ultimately average/forgettable movies.
since movies are a visual medium... story itself is not as critical for the overall movie to work since it can be boosted from it's visuals with atmosphere/mood and general visual style and locations etc.

Obviously "character driven" for me, which is evident by my ratings, and by the opposition here from those who simply hate "character driven" theater.

Both, BUT the story is MORE important THAN its characters.

Depends on the film.
I have very little interest in the family issues of Tony Stark, but it makes the story in Ladybird.

No preference. A good film is a good film regardless of whether it was driven by story or characters.

Not necessarily, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is a good story but i didn't particularly like the characters so my rating of it suffered.

Personally I've enjoyed films that are abstract and experimental so they technically have neither. Even those have to have a good framework however, even if they don't have a conventional plot. For regular movies I'd say it's only a fair comparison if you assume that the weaker element of the two is at least decent. Personally I could go either way. With a Marx Brothers comedy I could lean towards character where as with The Wages of Fear, the characters are decent but not as interesting to me as the plot.

I prefer character driven films in general. Either aspects is gold obviously but I actually think I could enjoy a character driven film with less story but I don’t think I’d like a story driven film with shallow or uninteresting characters.
