My best guess. The mother killed her and the father helped her cover it up.

I've long felt that the only way this case will be solved is by a breakthrough in the evidence science or a detailed confession from the killer.

or perhaps a parent admitting.
But if I am right the killer has died. (the mother)
You say: "keep it going, why do you feel that way."
Some of the evidence just points that way. Plus the way they acted. And what killer would take the time to write a 2 1/2 page ransom note in the house? No one except the parents trying to cover up what they did.

I USED to think it was the mother, BUT now believe it was the brother.

Definitely NOT an outsider (outside job), BUT an insider (inside job).

I USED to think it was the mother, BUT now believe it was the brother. The bottom line is either the mother, dad or the brother did it. And sadly like O.J. Simpson they got away with murder.

I don't think anyone in her family did it. If the ransom note came from the inside house then that's very strange and suspicious
I don't know if they did a very good investigation if the crime scene was contaminated

If the ransom note came from the inside house then that's very strange and suspicious I don't know if they did a very good investigation if the crime scene was contaminated There's a lot we don't know, and probably can't know, as every investigation holds back certain things from being mentioned in the press. If a suspect knows that small detail, then that can indicate at the very least inside knowledge and perhaps guilt. A 2 1/2 page ransom note? Depending on what it said, it could indicate a disorganized killer, or one in a psychotic break. We will probably never know, sadly.

I believe the brother accidentally killed her. And the family, trying to maintain their image, made a horrible decision to cover it up and mask it to be something else. And this, combined with an initial botched investigation, lead to this being one of the most baffling unsolved cases of all time.
Just a horrible accident that spiraled into something stranger than fiction.

I still tend to think it was the mother, with dad covering up for her.

I believe he caught her eating it and in a quick fit of rage hit her in the head with the flashlight (the nearest object he could grab).
