Should have been locked up for child endangerment.

They were only following the script so I put the blame on John Hughes.

They had a family of like 20. Of course they might forget due to stress.

Since they raised a psychopath that probably turned into Jigsaw when he grew up, they should be investigated.

The Dad should be found without fault, but the Mom should be investigated. She put Kevin in the room and should have got him when they were leaving. I don't know if the Dad even knew that Kevin was up there.

Grossly negligent. They're no different from parents who forget their kids in a hot car.

Locked up for kicking the woman off the phone in Paris.
What if that was a mother on the phone with a dying daughter with cancer in Australia? 'OH WHAT? HELLO?? OH SHE'LL HAVE TO CALL YOU BACK!'
I skip through all the Mom & Paris stuff now, has not aged well.

Forgetting Kevin was one of the least offensive things about them. Pair of assholes.

That bit where his mother says to some random people that she'll "sell [her] soul... to the Devil himself!" just for a chance to get back to Kevin always makes me laugh. Loony woman! But given that their actions gave the kid a crash course in caring for himself, I am willing to look the other way.
By the way, the police weren't much help either. They send an officer around to the house, who knocks a few times, and then leaves and then never returns. Later, an officer pursues Kevin after he runs away without paying for a toothbrush, gets outwitted by Kevin, and doesn't do something like get a description (or possibly even a NAME from the storekeepers) and then maybe matching it with a report of a child left behind by his family, and then going around to his house.

You forgot to mention the ending part where... The police get a call, from someone, about the "Wet Bandits" robbing houses in the same neighborhood, where this earlier house was located where Kevin was supposedly home alone...
And there was no investigation into who the caller was, considering the whole neighborhood was away for the holiday?
And why didn't the "Wet Bandits" say anything to the police, about being beaten up by a kid who was home alone?
Didn't the police wonder who beat the shit out of them?
A lot of stuff, all happening in the same vacant neighborhood, at the same time, and the Police couldn't put it all together? And why was Kevin still home alone on Christmas morning?
Well, it seems the police didn't know about it, but if they did, why weren't they with Kevin?
BUT...
What about the neighbor? Why wasn't he with Kevin? Surely at the end of the film, He would have figured out that Kevin was by himself... and yet, he didn't?
The Police, The Neighbor, The Parents... Everyone seemed to be a bit on the slow side, in realizing that Kevin was "Home Alone"... However, I really don't blame the Parents, too much... They were in a hurry to get to the airport... and there was a head count, even though it failed because of the neighbor boy...

Oh yeah, there are heaps of examples where Home Alone would've been a much shorter film had someone just got their act together and started making further inquiries. Also, I'm surprised Kevin's call to the police was taken much more seriously than his mother's call. Speaking of which... why the hell didn't Kevin call the police earlier?
