It's not a surprise. Its had only two real dynasties (more than a back-to-back championship) since the advent of the draft in 1965. The 1972-1974 Athletics and the 1998-2000 Yanks. You can argue other teams were dynasties, 90' Braves, teens Giants, whatever. But none hold a candle to Gretzky's Oilers, Jordan's Bulls, Brady's Pats.
The surprising this is that baseball keeps parity despite the fact that it takes longer to make a big league caliber player (there are exceptions, don't bring them up) in baseball than other sports, especially football and basketball. You can't get a draft like Dallas did last year and turn a team around like that. The Dodger in 1968 possibly had the best draft of any team in any sport. Bobby Valentine, Davey Lopes, Bill Buckner, Doyle Alexander, Joe Ferguson, Steve Garvey and Ron Cey. But it took years to see the results.

Agreed. yet some people just keep saying 'there is no salary cap in baseball and it's not fair to the poor teams!'
meanwhile, some nfl teams suck so bad that you know at the beginning of the season they won't be contending
