It's something of a religious question, so I didn't mark it OT. And there will certainly be no universally accepted answer, but I thought the question made a rather good song. Enjoy.

Space alien invasion. That would cause all the countries to put their differences aside and unit against a new threat.

Well, okay, as long as your alien cousins bring their own beer.

Cats.
At the moment, they're taking a lot of naps to rest up for the effort.

Cats. At the moment, they're taking a lot of naps to rest up for the effort. That sounds sensible. They'll need to conserve their energy for the Lagomorph Apocalypse.

Yup. The Earth will save itself. When humans go extinct it should take a short time, perhaps one or two million years, for the Earth to recover.

The world doesn’t need saving. Tell it to the globalists, for all the good it will do, which is none.

Us. And if we can't, too bad, we're over with. Take comfort in that all things will pass away. I hope you mean 'we' as in pragmatic intelligent human beings and not US in terms of the United States of America! Wait that automatically rules out Trump and his supporters...

Cats. At the moment, they're taking a lot of naps to rest up for the effort. I am currently learning French and there is a wonderful French phrase applicable to the efforts of cats... 'restez pour mieux sauter'

There's no great sky daddy who will do it for us. The only problem is that we need the 'earth daddies'( ie world leaders and those in power ) to realise this and act accordingly.

The world doesn’t need saving. Tell it to the globalists, for all the good it will do, which is none. You have inadvertently hit the nail on the head. In this case we ALL need to be globalists to even attempt to save the planet. Competing national and selfish interests have led us to this impasse, a stuffed climate and wars over resources (accentuated by male egos of some of leaders ) especially amongst the so called 'super powers'.

Have you included nuclear fallout in your calculations, honey! Most experts think that in the order of a few thousand years the radiation level would subside to levels comparable to naturally occurring uranium in the soil.
