Adding Ann-Margret, whom I always thought started her singing in the pictures, not before them, but I was wrong. [About 1959-60] "As part of a group known as the Suttletones, she performed at the Mist nightclub in Chicago and secured club dates in Newport Beach, California and Reno, Nevada. The group went to the Dunes in Las Vegas, which also headlined Tony Bennett and Al Hirt at that time. George Burns heard of her performance, and she auditioned for his annual holiday show, in which she and Burns performed a softshoe routine. Variety proclaimed that 'George Burns has a gold mine in Ann-Margret'." [wikipedia] Thanks to George Burns, her Hollywood career began. Her first film, Pocketful of Miracles, was released in 1961.

As terrible as he sang in Les Miserable, Russell Crowe was a musician in a band before made it big on big screen.

Peggy Lee Best Supporting Actress nominee for Pete Kelly's Blues (1955) EDIT: Omigosh, Spider, by the time I'd reread through the whole two-year-old thread, I'd forgotten she was the one you mentioned at the outset. Man, those short-term memory issues can really get you down. What was the question again?

No worries, my friend. If I had a nickel for everything I can't remember these days, well, you know. . .And I'm so glad you thought of Peggy Lee; one of my favorites. There was a very nice tribute to her on CBS Sunday Morning this morning, with some lovely and interesting comments by her granddaughter. I suppose that's what motivated me to bump this thread. "Sing a Rainbow," from that film, is so beautiful, and her performance singing it on screen is so haunting; I think it helped her get the Oscar nod. And I was surprised to learn from the CBS segment that she was also a prolific songwriter; among her many titles are "Fever," "Big Spender," and this:
From research, I learned that in 1999 she was she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. What a talent she was!
EDIT: Found a link to the CBS segment. Enjoy!

OT because he was never an Oscar anything but ...found this sharable bit of singing trivia Myron Healey - American actor and occasional screenwriter. One of the most frequently seen heavies in films and television programs of the 1950s... Was a child prodigy who sang on radio and gave violin and piano recitals while still in his early teens.

Thanks for this Ollie. Never knew, never would have thought.
Me neither .... discovered it when confirming that he was an "uncredited" in Ladies of the Chorus and, since this thread was sort of related, HAD to share !
