Specifically those who you weren't really aware of before 2019. They can be ones from TV shows or movies. Gaia Girace is an actress I had no knowledge of prior to 2019, and the reason for that is because she hadn't done any acting before scoring the part of Raffaella ‘Lila’ Cerullo in the TV series My Brilliant Friend. When watching the show, I was impressed with how she brought an 'intensity' to the role Lila. There were several instances where she was almost scary with how intense she played the part (when Lila made threats, I really believed she *meant* it). Other times she could play very 'vulnerable' (at the end of the season final, her character's absolutely devastated reaction to something was so powerful). Lila is a complex character, and for an actress who hadn't really acted before, Gaia Girace was very impressive. I hope to see her get more recognition in the coming years. So, what actors/actresses did 2019 introduce you to who caught your attention?

Florence Pugh. She seemed to come out of nowhere this year. I thought she was quite good in both Midsommar (one of my favorites of the year) and Fighting with My Family.
I haven't even seen Little Women yet and then next year she's in Black Widow.

Florence Pugh caught my attention in Midsommar. Pretty good young actress. Florence Pugh. She seemed to come out of nowhere this year. I thought she was quite good in both Midsommar (one of my favorites of the year) and Fighting with My Family. I haven't even seen Little Women yet and then next year she's in Black Widow. The first thing I saw Florence Pugh in was the TV mini-series The Little Drummer Girl which I watched on DVD in 2019. Her performance really stood out in that (in a cast that included Michael Shannon and Alexander Skarsgård, that's quite the feat). After watching that, I was so happy to hear she was cast in Black Widow. I hope to eventually get around to watching the 2019 movies she's appeared in such as Fighting with My Family, Midsommar and Little Women. I'm especially excited to see her in Black Widow. It's so nice to see her getting recognition. Stephan Graham - The Irishman I'd only seen the first season the TV series Boardwalk Empire, because the station which aired it here never bothered showing the rest, so I decided to get the complete series box set on DVD and only just finished watching it in 2019. Stephen Graham was impressive in his role as Al Capone (even if I wasn't that fond of his character). I saw mentioned elsewhere the idea of him playing The Penguin in a Batman movie and could totally see that. Some up-and-coming actors and actresses include: Ana De Armas in Knives Out Rosa Salazar in Alita: Battle Angel. I would've mentioned those^ two actresses too...except I kind of knew of them before 2019. Ana de Armas I'd watched in Blind Alley before I ever got around to watching Blade Runner 2049 on Blu-ray. With Rosa Salazar, I've been aware of her ever since she guest starred on the TV series Parenthood. I then saw her guest star in other things, saw her in some 'small' parts in movies, then finally saw her in Alita: Battle Angel - she was particularly impressive in that (especially considering all the CGI manipulation done to her face). I really hope to see her score some 'big'/major roles in things, as I've become quite a fan of hers.

That’s a hard one Chalice_Of_Evil and I had to sleep on it ‘cause a lot of the actresses I would name like Sydney Sweeney for example have had my attention for a few years now and I discovered Sydney Sweeney back in 2018 and listed her on a thread Beccy created on the Arrow board about actors who we thought would be future stars (http://IMDB2.freeforums.net/thread/89033/name-actors-who-future-stars?page=1) but one that comes to mind who I read was on ‘Game of Thrones’ that you might know is Aisling Franciosi who starred in the movie ‘The Nightingale’ which was a huge hit here in Australia and swept the AACTA Awards recently winning Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Direction and earning Aisling the Best Lead Actress award. The movie while disturbing in parts was fantastic and Aisling Franciosi did a great job in the leading role. I would suggest you check it out if you haven’t already but keep in mind it is not for the faint of heart.

Another shout-out to Florence Pugh. Also Paul Walter Hauser - Richard Jewell.
And while I was "aware" of these people, Craig and De Armas in Knives Out and Emilia Clarke in Last Christmas impressed me more than they've ever had.

Florence Pugh caught my attention in Midsommar. Pretty good young actress. She had a great breakthrough year. Midsommar, Fighting with My Family and Little Women. All good movies and she gives a memorable performance in all of them.

I'd have to nominate Denzel Washington's son.

Lots of love for Florence Pugh on here, and I gotta be honest, I was not impressed by her in either Midsommar or Little Women, wasn't even crazy about her performance in Lady Macbeth a few years back. I understand those are very difficult roles and she's really young, but they both felt stiff, like she wasn't willing to go all the way with them, and that's what was really needed for me to fully get on board with both those movies.
