Let me ask you a question: Does anyone actually like this song? I do not. I dislike it so much that any song by the Cars (Any!)would probably be a better song . Not that the cars are a horrible band or anything.
I would personally rather listen to the last cars record that was good, which is door to door, than listen to the song somebody that I used to know. A good question really

I do like the song.
Although, I heard the cover version by Walk Off The Earth first. When the band gets a tweet from Russell Crowe - commending them on the job they did with the song, they must be doing something right.
In fact, I showed my father both versions of the videos. He was impressed by Walk Off The Earth's version.
When my brother visited, he started to sing that song. I said....they're (Walk Off The Earth) down from your way. My brother lived in Burlington at the time - same hometown as Walk Off The Earth.
It wasn't until just recently that I downloaded the Gotye version from iTunes.
I also downloaded a remix of the song. I saw Miami '84 remix, so I thought that was neat. Imagine if Jan Hammer, the composer of the theme to Miami Vice, had his way with remixing the song.

One of the few mainstream pop hits of the last few years that are good.

Most of Michael Jackson'e songs are really terrible. Just the popular ones are listenable. This song is ok. I know it's not Michael Jackson who sings it but I'm just saying.

One of the best songs of 2011, but not one of the best songs of all time.

I'm not a fan, but it'd be pointless for me to hate on this when there's been far worse and more offensive songs in the radio both today, and back around the time it was relevant. Anyway, why bring it back up when it's been consigned to oblivion for X years already?

I like it, but it's too much of an earworm, which is dangerous for me. More Gotcha than Gotye.

When I first heard it, I thought it was Sting. It's a good song, but it doesn't withstand repeated listenings.

Because it is a duet song. It doesn't even register on the list of the best duet songs. Or even an honorable mention.
Because, ok here is a better example of a duet than somebody that I used to know...Elton john with kiki dee did a better duet than that song, In my opinion.

It's a good case in point for those who think that sampling is just theft, too. I mean, I wonder how many people would've heard Luis Bonfa's "Seville" before this, and you can hardly say that he does nothing new with the source material.

A good question really Just out of curiosity why are The Cars the band you’re using as a comparison? As far as I know Gotye is a one hit wonder. The Cars are deservedly in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Okay, fair enough. But just because something doesn't rank among the best in their given genre doesn't mean its not enjoyable. I also could mention a ton of better duets. For that matter, better than the duet you mentioned too. Pop songs are like opinions. Everyone's got one.

I like it, one of the better chart toppers of the decade. I do prefer some of his other songs like Easy Way Out, Eyes Wide Open and my favorite of his Hearts A Mess.
