And no, I didn't mean as in...the time right now for music.
… ...
1987 - 1992. Why? Because that was the last time good music was still being made. We had all these bands from the mid 70's and early 80's. When was the last time they last had any good music? 1987 and 1992 between those two years. Mostly.
Oingo boingo (last decent music made in 1990)Aerosmith/U2/ metallica/megadeth/eric Clapton/ talking heads/ even the police, or I guess Sting in that instance. The cars also. rush had hold your fire. Last good album by them, or the one after that would be a contender also. Both between 1987 and 1989. And yes, the rabbit album by them is mediocre. But their later albums are not even That!
And Journey, with 1986. You can say jOURNey suck and all their music sucks. Raised on radio sucks? It is at least mediocre, which their later music is not even that. At least according to how good Journey music can actually be in the first place(not that much really.)
Even solo careers from whom I don't really like like Michael Jackson and McCartney released the last good music they ever would do, which is the album, Bad. Or in McCartney's case, Flowers in the dirt. Last album he made that didn't totally suck. Or maybe it does, but it's less sucky than what he made later. Trust me.
MADONNA, an artist I don't like, same thing.
Ac/Dc same thing. Razor's Edge, obviously. Rolling stones, same thing. At least steel wheels manages to be mediocre. And possibly voodoo lounge is the last album by them that is at least mediocre. From 1994. To be fair, they probably were working on these songs since around 1992 for Voodoo Lounge anyway. So therefore I am counting this as a 1992/possibly 1993 album.

Boingo made a perfectly fine album in 1994 (Better than the 1990 album)..While the period you mention is quite good, there is plenty of good music to be found afterward, even up to the present day..

I love the 80s (probably early to mid most). I also like Classic Rock mostly from the 70s.

While the period you mention is quite good, there is plenty of good music to be found afterward, even up to the present day..Exactly! Here is the count of albums I own by decade released: DECADE | CountOfAlbum | 197 | 2 | 198 | 90 | 199 | 11 | 200 | 80 | 201 | 116 |
So as you can see, I've purchased more albums from the 2010s than from any other decade. I haven't purchased any 2020 album releases yet, but the year is young.

First, I don't know what defines a "music era." Second, people's favorite "eras" tend to correspond with their age far more than anything else (people are open/receptive to new music in their teens/early-20s and become closed-minded later on). Finally, for those of us who love multiple genres, some of which go back hundreds of years (like classical), it's nearly impossible to pick even if we were able to define "era."
All that said, if we're talking pop music, I find it hard to best the 60s given that three of my top five favorite artists (Beatles, Dylan, and Kinks) were at their prime during that decade, so I might just say that. Though there are probably more bands/artists I like from the 80s given that was the heyday of classic metal as well as a lot of good pop music. If we're talking other genres, the 50s or 60s for jazz were both pretty awesome, though I'd give the edge to the 50s. For classical, probably somewhere in the mid-to-late 19th Century when we had Wagner, Brahms, Liszt, Dvorak, Verdi, Mahler, Bruckner, Sibelius, Puccini, etc. all composing.

1977-1980, I was the perfect age for punk, stunning time to be going to gigs in London.

It was a pretty good 5 year period. But not for music made by any of the bands/acts you mention. Maybe except AC/DC
