I assumed that Noah Baumbach and Olivia Wilde were locks in their respective categories.

I'm kinda relieved Todd Phillips didn't get a nom. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Joker but I don't think his direction is even close to being one of the best of the year. I was hoping for Baumbach (or based on reactions from friends maybe Greta Gerwig, but I haven't seen Little Women yet) instead of f.e. Taika. And Céline Sciamma & Robert Eggers would've definitely been in the top 5 had it been up to me. But they didn't have a chance anyways so it's not like I'm disappointed. All in all, I think it's okay. Parasite's on there and tbh that's the only thing I really care about at this point. I really liked Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, but I'd be disappointed if it wins Best Picture over Parasite.

Waititi is the only mild surprise. I'm hoping Bong will win but I suspect it's Mendes v. Tarantino. I don't think it's Scorsese's year.

At least no one can say it is dominated by North-Western European white men.
