Deanna Durbin, fl. 1936-1948. There was a studio and media created feud between Durbin and Judy Garland. The issue was who would emerge on top: Durbin’s operatic soprano or Judy’s Broadway belting. Well, we all know how that turned out, don’t we?
Jeanette MacDonald. Not only trained but actually sang opera. Was also a Broadway star and appeared in 8 incredibly successful movie musicals with Nelson Eddy from 1935 to 1942. Depending on who you talk to, they were either lovers or hated each other.
