Michael McCarthy of FrontOfficeSports.com reports ESPN plans to offer CBS announcer and former Cowboys QB Tony Romo a deal that would make him the highest-paid sportscaster in history.
Per McCarthy, ESPN is prepared to offer Romo a seven-year deal with a salary in the range of $10-14 million annually, which would blow away the current high-water mark for NFL analysts currently held by Fox's Troy Aikman ($7.5 million). It would be an eye-popping sum, though Romo would be a clear upgrade on current Monday night color analyst Booger McFarland, who has struggled to say the least since joining the broadcast in 2018. Romo is due $4 million in the final year of his three-year contract with CBS, which is set to expire after this season.

He's one of those people haters hate on because it's 'cool' to hate on him and the trendy thing to do. I couldn't imagine my Sunday's without Buck and Aikman and find Bucky a pleasure too watching baseball as well. Very informative and doesn't go too over the top with his commentary and he and Aikman are like Peanut Butter and Jelly - great chemistry - I'd argue just as good as Madden and Summerall.

On one hand I don't want Romo exiled to what is often the shit game of the week that nobody watches. On the other hand, anything that will take Booger McFarland off the air...

Always been a Joe Buck fan myself, although mostly only heard him during the World Series.

If they sign Romo, they have to get rid of play by play guy Joe "THIS IS THE BIGGEST 3RD AND 7 IN TITANS HISTORY" Tessitore. That guy is way too uptight and serious to have a good flow with how Tony Romo does his thing.
As much as I like to goof on Jim Nantz, he is the perfect guy to work with Romo. Jimbo can get all serious and stuff, but never seems over the top with it, and he has a good sense of humor which works great with Romo.
Not sure if Tessitore would have as good of chemistry with Romo as Nantz does.

He looks at Romo sometimes like he wants to make love to him

I actually enjoy seeing Jim Nantz do a game now, where before I used to cringe.

I would love to hear Romo every week on a national game when it’s the only game on, he’s the best NFL analyst out there, he really adds a lot to the game. I agree that Tessitore would have to go along with Booger, I don’t care for either of them and I don’t think Tessitore would have good chemistry with Romo, Nantz and Romo have great chemistry, I’ve been critical of Nantz for being an ass kisser but he does have a smooth, laid back style that goes well with Romo.
I can’t believe someone on this thread thinks Joe Buck is great, he’s terrible - dull and adds nothing to the broadcast, he’s only a top level broadcaster because of nepotism, if his daddy was a nobody Joe Buck would never be calling NFL games, he would be lucky to be calling high school games. He sucks, I like Aikman fine but Buck is one of the worst play by play guys in sports.

Good. MNF deserves better all around, not least its match-ups. Please stop delivering Jaguars @ Cardinals... TNF got marquee games, time for MNF to reclaim some again.

Booger Macfarland may not be great, good, or tolerable...
But at least they got rid of Witten.

Booger Macfarland may not be great, good, or tolerable... But at least they got rid of Witten. It was 3rd and long near the end of the game and Booger wanted to run a quick play to pick up a few yards and then spike it. I think they can do better than a guy who thinks there are 5 downs in football.

Halloween is on Monday in two years. Bring back Witten, McFarland and Dennis Miller for the 'scariest' MNF of all time!

I'll forever be grateful to Romo for getting Phil Simms out of the booth - who was just horrific to listen to. That said, I think Simms is doing better now that he's a halftime guy who has time to look at footage and compose himself a little. In the heat of the moment, however, he used to be all "well Jeeim you see the linebacker tackle the running back who keeps a firm grip on the football!" Simply telling us what we already saw instead of actual insight.

Getting rid of Booger would be great. And not losing the Romo Sunday game to being in the Texans' market.
But I hate Tessitore's angry-excited yelling over key plays, and often don't stay up for the entire Monday night game.
