She should had just performed. I'm sure it's well intended but it can very easily come across as self righteous. I remember a slightly similar situation with Selma which I think was the first time the whole #OscarsSoWhite got started. They were also nominated in a musical category but the whole cast got up to sing anyway. It was arguably the highlight of the night.
