I'm excited but 2020 is still far away. Let's just hope the sequels won't be delayed even further. Apparently James Cameron has an incredible idea about his sequels and thinks this can be his magnum opus. Otherwise he would never have put this much effort into them and delay them multiple times. So my expectations are pretty high.

At any rate the 2nd one better be good or even better than the original or I'll skip the next few.

I loved the first one, but a plan for four movies just feels like a plan for mediocrity.

I loved the first one, but a plan for four movies just feels like a plan for mediocrity. And apathy, unless they're really compelling.

Not surprised. Cameron is planning four Avatar sequels, Ridley Scott already has another SIX Alien sequels planned to make.

This is going to be awesome. I will be first in line to see all of them. Can't be any worse than waiting countless hours to see The Phantom Menace on the big screen. And yes, I did that. ::shudder::

I'm stoked as well. I believe that Cameron said he will start filming this August so that should fall in line with the Dec 2020 release date. The 1st one was so damn entertaining (especially the 3rd act/final battle sequence). I saw it twice in IMAX 3D.
Things I am looking forward to in the sequel(s) -more action (I felt the 1st one could have used more action sequences in it. I have no doubt Cameron will have some more stunning action scenes) - under water sequences. ( I read that Cameron is probably going to film some epic scenes under water. I have a feeling those will be jaw dropping to watch)
lets hope for no more delays folks! haha

I loved the first--might be my favorite cinema experience ever--and I would love the sequels to be just as good!

Ehh, I rather Cameron spend the rest of his old age making original films instead of being a money hog and unnecessarily expanding a franchise.

Can these Avatar movies even succeed in this current movie time? Avatar was essentially all special effects, except for the humans. All the rage today is practical effects (for better or worse) and I doubt that Cameron changes his methods now. In 2009 we were all happy to watch CGI fill the entire screen. Now, not so much.

All good points & I understand your skepticism BUT I am sure Cameron has something up his sleeve here. And while Avatar might not be as popular in the States anymore , it will be a monster at the box office in the overseas market (particularly China). I see the sequels making serious bank .

I won't believe it until I'm in the theater watching it.

No one really cares about Avatar anymore, everything it did for movies has been surpassed as well.
