I’m a sucker for the old straight to video slashers that littered the shelves of video rental stores in the early 2000s. Just curious if others have an affinity for them as well.
Personally, I love the Bloody Murder franchise.

I definitely enjoyed the Bloody Murder movies to a degree. They're poorly made but somehow not as predictable as I would have imagined a shameless Friday the 13th rip off would be.
I'm not sure I'm familiar with many others. Which movies, besides Bloody Murder, are you fond of?

Some of my favorites ended up being ones like a The Pool, Frightmare, Memorial Day, Camp Slaughter (aka Camp Daze), Silent Scream (aka The Retreat).

Eh, I like my slasher movies with at least some quality to it. I can forgive the ones from 80s since they at least have that camp value of their time.
I heard Bloody Murder 2 was better than the first, but by how much? I’ve not seen either one, BTW.

Oh don’t get me wrong. I love the B-slashers for different reasons. Higher class movies will always reign supreme.
BM2 is miles better than the first. In all categories: acting, writing, direction, cinematography. Everything. Highly recommended. Just keep in mind it’s still a low budget movie.

I remember enjoying Bloody Murder 2 a great deal more than the first, but that's a pretty low bar to clear given how shitty the first is.

I take it you’re sort of referring to stuff like the Camp Blood, Killjoy, Lovers Lane etc. I’ve seen bits and pieces, here and there. However they’re a bit of a blur. Sort of digestible (not always though), yet forgotten shortly after. The most recent one I watched of this sort was Paranoid (2000) IMDb page. It had its moments. However there are a few off the top of my head I enjoyed, and own; Bloody Murder 2, Cut, Shredder, Toolbox Murders, Detour & Malevolence.

This entire thread is reminding me of this video this guy did. Some of these movies mentioned have been listed here, but don’t take it personal as it is his own opinion.

The thing that drew me to these movies as a teenager was the aspiring filmmaker within myself. I always thought, “If THIS can get made, surely something I write could, too!”

I always thought, “If THIS can get made, surely something I write could, too!” Yeah, that is pretty true. Sometimes a movie can be made to such a low quality to the point where anybody (just about ANYBODY) can make a movie.

The Bloody Murder films in particular are quite fascinating. While officially there are only two films, the series is actually quite large. I started a fan site (https://www.bloody-murder-films.com) back in 2003 (that I still maintain) that you might find interesting if you desire to dive into the series lol.

Back in the late 90s early 2000s I remember coming across a website for a low budget slasher film company. What was interesting is that it was located in my area. Not known for its cultural vibrancy so fascinating that some people were doing such things here.
A couple of years later I met a local guy who made some of his own--he sold a film to the Asylum. That was funny because he told me he had been worried they would ruin it and then he shrugged with a smile and concluded: "but then I thought--they want to make money--why would they ruin it!"
Later though when I talked to him again he sounded depressed because they changed the name of the film from Carmilla to Vampires vs Zombies so when people watched it thinking it would be about vampires vs zombies and it wasn't they got pissed off and blamed him.

That reminds of a story that happened on my message board. Two members on my board collaborated on a script called Camp Nightmare and actually sold it to a small production company. Long story short, they were pissed that the title was changed to "Sparrow" right before release (it's on Amazon Prime, BTW).

Does Shredder fall into that category? Because I liked Shredder. Saw Shredder not long ago and liked the ski setting and the fun mystery of the killer. Felt a bit like a leftover from that late 90's slasher revival brought on by Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty.
