Let's pretend that in an alternate universe, these two actors switched their superhero acting roles. Levi plays Starlord and Pratt plays Shazam. Nothing else is changed in the movies. Same director, same script, same co-stars, same everything. The only change is the actors playing the lead roles.
Who does a better job playing their new characters? What pros and cons do each bring to their new characters compared to the original actors who played the character? Will either of them improve the sales or ratings of their movies?

Would Chris Pratt also be Fandral in this case?

Both films would've been awful. Pratt is perfect as Star-Lord and Levi has the right kind of energy for what they're doing with Shazam. Levi seems like a big kid in Shazam, if Pratt tried to do that he'd come off as a cokehead and the entire story would fall apart. Likewise Pratt brings a nuance to Quill that Levi couldn't replicate. The character would be a little too goofy I think.

Well the funny thing is that Zachary Levi did try out for Starlord.

Both wouldn’t work.

C'mon people, put a bit more imagination into it. Just because we already got used to how they've played their own roles doesn't mean they don't have a shot at playing other roles. These are actors after all...

These are actors after all... Sure, but actors get cast and not cast for a reason. It's not that I don't think they could play a version of that character, it just wouldn't fit the script. The movies would have a different feel to them that I don't think would work as well. The movies would be worse for having made these casting decisions.

There is definitely a "they got to me first" bias. I'm usually of the opinion most onscreen roles are interchangeable and few roles are truly sacrosanct, but I agree with you that no small amount of effort was put into the casting. A lot of effort was put into making sure neither were a complete misfire. It probably took a lot of imagination to see Chris Pratt in the role considering he cut his teeth on Parks and Rec as a very different looking man.

Pratt is too douchey to pull off Shazam's earnestness, so I'll give it to Levi.

I think this would work pretty well. Pratt basically played a kid in an adult body on Parks and Rec. I still think Andy Dwyer was his best role!

However Levi could definitely up the "darker" side for Peter Quill.
