He should get on board but the chain seems to be dry.

The problem is if Lucas regained full control, new SW would just become generic looking like the prequels. X wings and tie fighters would again be replaced by new generic Doug Chiang ships, and Lucas would pile on more new Star TREK looking aliens instead of familiar OT aliens. And there would never be any solid objects on set other than the actors. Favreau should be put in charge of all SW with Lucas as an advisor since the Mandalorian is the least divisive SW thing since 1983.

The ships in the PT were far from generic and had their own unique looks. I actually love the different aliens and Lucas' bringing in new ones with each installment. Fun fact, the OT actually used a lot of old masks from other science fiction projects from older productions. It was done as a way to save money. Sometimes the masks were "repurposed", other times they were used as-is like the Wolfman in Episode 4. So it's kind of funny you said that about the aliens in the OT.

I think Lucas is happy to just cash his massive checks every week. I doubt he would be happy just to do that. George Lucas has talked about money in various interviews over the decades. For him, money is a necessary evil, but one he doesn't chase after. Lucas found ways to make money because it was his way to tell the story he wanted to tell. He didn't just want to make money for the sake of making money. Here's one interview where George talks down to the idea of money and those who go after making movies just in the name of money.

How could Pod Racers be reasonably be considered a "generic" design if they are a novel scifi concept and iconic design only set out in TPM...? No need to post a million prequel pics, we all know what the prequels look like. If you don't like the word generic would you prefer BORING and BLAND?

No need to post a million prequel pics, we all know what the prequels look like. If you don't like the word generic would you prefer BORING and BLAND? The prequel ship designs were fairly creative. And even a few examples were interesting. The problem a good number of fans had was that the design foundation for most of them was so drastically different that some fans found it jarring. Many of the prequel designs had an artisan style. But the OT designs were a geometrical style. And for some fans, the big difference made it feel like the prequels were occurring in a totally separate galaxy from the one Luke, Leia, and Han were in. So when TFA put up a few new, generic flying boxes, but the rest of ships were OT classics... many fans cheered it on because they had been waiting 30 years for that environment again.

I remember telling people back in the day that that was George Lucas and most people didn't believe me.

Well, you would be an expert on what is... common. Do what you want in your own threads. When you participate in mine though, either provide a source when making a claim contradicting someone else OR refrain from making a comment altogether.

Surely it doesn't matter. The brand / franchise / whatever you want to call it is broken. You can't fix the DT, it's gone. Whether they got Lucas back as a "end of the Skywalker Saga" style marketing sales pitch or not surely anyone with half a brain would see straight through it...
