I adore "Last Year at Marienbad", but don't worry too much if you're thinking that you don't get the movie. Because the movie really does not go deep. It's got one great idea (the spoiled and privileged cannot escape their own gorgeous decay - same theme as "The Exterminating Angel", really) And the resolution is when the one couple finally leaves. It's just that the movie is simply dazzling to look at. And the overall sluggishness of the proceedings gives the movie a narcotic like quality. I used to get annoyed when people would make all these great claims for it. Of course it is a unique movie and a bold one to try to make, but its loveliest accomplishment is it is the first movie to have cornered the market on the color silver. All those mirrors!!! But its sluggishness and monotone delivery are going to put some people off. Now, I really want to see "Lola". I know that I would love it. 1. "Viridiana" (we have the same favorite! Much love for the whole movie, but the ending gave me chills, coolest ending to a movie that I have ever seen, bar none) 2. "Last Year at Marienbad" 3. "Yojimbo" 4. "Accatone"
