Joan Perry (1911–1996) was in 19 “B” movies in mostly supporting roles from 1935 to 1941. In her last two films (International Squadron and Nine Lives Are Not Enough) she was paired with Ronald Reagan – but that is not why she left acting. She left to marry the volatile and much hated head of Columbia Studio, Harry Cohn. They were married for 17 years until his death. She married two more times: to Harry Karl (for 2 months) and Laurence Harvey (for 3 years and some months). I guess no man could measure up to Cohn.

I seem to be on a kick here with women actors who retired for marriage. These are just some people I had run across in my travels through movies. I’m not recommending it. I like them all and wish they had made more and better movies. Next up is Beverly Michaels (1928 – 2007), a good actor who just couldn’t break through to the top tier. Her signature role is in “Wicked Woman” (1953) where she successfully walked the line between femme fatale and a satire of same. Another winner for her was the prison break movie “Crashout” (1955) where her character has the bad luck of falling for fugitive Arthur Kennedy. Her husband was writer/director Russell Rouse. Her family members, though, were more successful in the movie business. Rouse won an Oscar for Original Screenplay in 1960 and their son Christopher Rouse won an Oscar for Editing in 2007.

When Larry Parks was blacklisted, he and graylisted-by-marriage wife Betty Garrett built and owned several apartment buildings.
After his blacklisting Jeff Corey used his carpentry training to build an addition to his house where he ran an acting school with many famous students. Per Wiki they included: Robert Blake, James Coburn, Richard Chamberlain, James Dean, Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda, Sally Kellerman, Shirley Knight, Bruce Lee, Penny Marshall, Jack Nicholson, Roger Corman, Sharon Tate, Rita Moreno, Leonard Nimoy, Anthony Perkins, Rob Reiner, Robert Towne, Barbra Streisand, and Robin Williams. Corey returned to acting in the early '60s.

Didn't know that about Larry Parks and Betty Garrett, Richard (don't think I even remembered they were married), so thanks for the info. But I did know about Jeff Corey, whom I studied with in the early 70s. A great guy, actor and teacher. And I remember that when THE WAY WE WERE came out, he didn't approve of it at all. He thought Arthur Laurents and the film weren't honest about the Blacklist. Of course, he knew whereof he spoke. But what a teacher he was, and actor, too. I just bought his memoir, "Improvising Out Loud," written with his daughter Emily and published in 2017. Haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Pamela Franklin I heard she quit acting at 30 and become a bookstore owner. Yes, prime. She lives in Hollywood with her husband, actor Harvey Jason, who is still working. But Pamela stopped acting in 1980 and she does indeed, along with her husband, own the Mystery Pier Books store in West Hollywood. They concentrate on "Collectible Literature in the First Edition." What a great life that must be!
One of my favorite of her films (and her first) is The Innocents (1961), based upon Henry James' novel, "The Turn of the Screw." Perhaps that's were she first got her love of literature.

Diane McBain worked as both a Church Community Centre receptionist and also did accounts for a pornographer after the acting gigs dried up.

Director James Glickenhaus retired at a rather young age and works in the automobile industry. I thought his film The Exterminator was quite good.
