Everyone, sound the alarm! This film is almost certainly doomed!
It turned out that Daniel Espinosa's unimpressive filmography was actually the least of this film's problems, as the biggest problem with this film turned out to be screenwriters.
Why? The film is being written by 2 screenwriter duos. The first duo is Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who wrote scripts for... Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and Gods of Egypt. The second duo, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, are even worse as they've written scripts for... Men in Black: International, Transformers: The Last Knight, Punisher: War Zone, and Iron Man, which got its script pretty much thrown out during the production because it was so hideous.

Eww. They really doubled down on it. It's almost like they want it to fail. Or trying to go it for cheap by getting people that don't have prestige enough to demand big money.

I've already said on MCU Fan Forum that Morbius might not do well because of: 1. Daniel Espinosa's filmography. 2. Competitions from Tenet and Jungle Cruise. 3. Almost no chance of an IMAX release because Tenet comes out only 2 weeks before - and we know that Nolan films tend to have 5 to 6 weeks in IMAX. And now we can add screenwriters with dismal portfolios.

Oh boy. I liked the trailer, but seeing those filmographies has me worried.

Oh boy. I liked the trailer, but seeing those filmographies has me worried. And like I've said, Daniel Espinosa isn't really that good of a director and the film doesn't have a lot of chance to get an IMAX release because of Tenet. Combine that with dismal writers, I think we might have a legit train wreck coming in this July.

When a screen/script writer makes a bad script or two, I normally give them the benefit of the doubt that everyone has their bad moments here and there. But when three of your screenplays are as bad as Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and Gods of Egypt... well, that doesn't give me much hope. I was actually fine with the script for MIB International and Warzone, IMO those movies had other issues than the script.
Still, this does not bode well for Morbius. I liked the trailer and it got me excited, but if it's true they're getting these screenwriters then this movie is probably going to be a clusterfuck.

Eh I'll wait to see what sort of reviews it gets, seen it before when people have made "bad" movies in the past and then just fucking crush it on another, and vice versa, the trailer got me interested that does more for me then who is attached to write or direct a film, then again I am not expecting another Logan or anything like that, Venom was imo a fun but silly movie, if it can live up to that then great I am all for it, the bar isn't all that high for this film, so long as it's entertaining I will be happy.

I haven't thought about Morbius in a dog's age. I can't say I'm in a great rush to see it, but if it does well, I'll raise a glass. Morbius was awesome. I loved the voice actor in the Spiderman cartoon in the 90's. The way he would say "Felicia, my love". He was born extra. He's funny as a character because his story is noble and tragic too. He's kind of a scene stealer. This video I found is my toast to Morbius.
He's already a star at 17 seconds.

SMHC, Venom and FFH were all highly successful movies, so not sure what you're talking about. I'm honest about the quality of MCU movies, and if Morbius sucks then I'll call it as such. Venom was so-so, not sure how it ended up becoming successful. But SMHC and FFH were both pretty good movies

I meant that Sony Marvel films that Sony exercised full control - and that film was Venom, which wasn't necessarily terrible, but clearly not a good place to start.

In a lot of cases the failure of a film lies more with its director, producers, and studio than the writer.
Regarding the writers of the Morbius movie though...
On the first duo - Dracula Untold had many reshoots that practically re-did the whole movie, the master vampire Dracula meets in the movie was originally envisioned as a younger being and played by Charlie Cox, later the studio decided to recast the part, re-did the character, and try to tie it in with a potential cinematic universe. I don't know much about the productions to either Gods of Egypt or of The Last Witch Hunter but I'm aware the latter also had some heavy retooling in filming and post-production, Gods of Egypt I'd imagine a lot of people working on it didn't know whether to try and make an epic or go all pulp. I've only seen the first couple episodes of their Lost in Space reboot on Netflix, I liked what I saw but I hear its messy later on though.
On the second duo - Well, you are quite right. Their script for Iron Man was really just a blueprint they used to work from and redid as much as they could in between the major plot points. However, Punisher: War Zone's failings really go down to Lionsgate and its director Lexi Alexander for there was a serious conflict on tone; Lionsgate pursued a more somber and realistic movie, while Alexander favored a more whacky, over the top splatter action movie. I read their script, Alexander did not do it any justice. Transformers: The Last Knight they were part of the writer's room to develop ideas for future installments of the franchise and had a concept for a stand alone movie that film's producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura decided to combine with a couple other individual pitches and turn it into one giant story. And in addition to that, a whole hour's worth of material was cut and retooled last minute. Keep in mind Michael Bay has the tendency to go off script and let his actors adlib a lot of their lines. Me In Black: International their script got the ball rolling on that production but their was conflict during filming between Sony and the director F. Gary Gray who had a different idea of how to approach the material.

It could be as bad as Venom. But all it needs is an impressive trailer with ‘cool’ music like Suicide Squad and it could make a respectable total, enough to continue the Sony Spiderverse.
