Jack Benny was born on Valentine's Day, 1894. Were he still with us, he would have been 39 today...

The Jack Benny Program is still one of the funniest shows on television.

Jack's best buddy George Burns once invited him out for breakfast at the swank Beverly Hills Hotel.
Burns ordered the house specialty -- Portuguese Bacon and Eggs St. Charles, and encouraged Jack to order the same.
Jack begged off and ordered Oatmeal instead, explaining that his wife Mary has him on a strict diet.
George pointed out that Mary was nowhere in sight, and that Jack should treat himself to a hearty meal for once.
So Jack reluctantly gave in, and when finishing agreed that it was indeed an excellent breakfast.
Then the expensive bill arrived, which Burns promptly handed over to Benny.
Jack protested that George had invited HIM to breakfast -- so why should he pay for the meal?
Burns said: "Because if you don't, I'll tell Mary you had Bacon and Eggs for breakfast."

Dennis Day was a BIG part of his Radio Shows …. Mom mostly listened to hear Dennis sing and always laughed at Rochester's remarks that brought Jack down a peg or two ! The various Mel Blanc characters are memorable as a well. Cy ? Si !
The radio shows are available on line and are still pretty darn funny !

Jack once had an encounter with a masked robber on the street at night.
Robber: "Your money or your life!"
(loonngg silence)
Impatient Robber: "Well?"
Jack: "I'm thinking it over!"

He and Mel Blanc on the Carson show were funny. That "si" skit which probably couldnt be done now.
I wonder what Blanc and Jim Henson talked about in the green room. It's not easy being green?
