www.wabe.org/new-documentary-honors-classic-film-critic-pauline-kael/“What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael” is a new documentary about the life and work of the legendary New Yorker film critic. “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with the film’s director Rob Garver from NPR in New York. When he began reading Pauline Kael’s reviews as a student, he said, “it was like listening to a pop song for the first time and immediately wanting to hear more.”

I'm going to be brutally honest and admit, absolutely not. But I do respect her writings on film, no matter how much I disagree with certain content.

I do not like many movie critics and almost never read them. Kael, if memory serves, was often very snide. Could she have made a film as good as Plan 9 From Outer Space or was she pretty much a wordy typist?
