I’m not really sure how to feel about it being Pg-13. It’s very clear they are not trying to remake the original movie at this point, but just a different adaptation and that’s where I can see this movie being a flop. Disney already lost the younger audience because I can see the parents saying no to their 6 year olds wanting to see this. I hope I’m wrong though.

I don't really see any problem with the rating. For any 6 year old they lose, they'll probably gain an older viewer who will be glad that it's not some silly kiddie stuff.

Everyone remembers Mulan as a silly kids movie though. Yes it had some serious moments, but be honest does anyone remember Mulan for the story? No. They remember it cause of Mushu and the songs. Honestly in the end I think this will just be a forgettable Disney live action remake. Without the songs and Mushu, the actress is really gonna have to carry this movie and even she doesen’t seem all that convincing.

This is just more "woke" femme virtue signalling. The cartoon just broke even domestically and relied on international box office. Since it is not animated, and there is a new generation since the cartoon came out, it may appeal to those that are now adults who saw the cartoon as a kid and they are really wanting to attract an older audience here. I don't think it would matter about the rating, because it will likely only be a moderate success regardless. They will rely on the Asian market to make it a smash. A film about Mushu would be more successful. Don’t know if this is true, but I heard Murphy was offered to play Mushu again in the remake, but he turned it down. From what I’m seeing and hearing he’s never fit in this version of Mulan anyway.

No. They take their kids to superhero movies and those are usually rated PG-13.

I think it'll work as a PG 13 film. Its supposed to have a ton of sword fighting in it after all.
I read that the budget is HUGE. Like well north of $150 million . Disney is really going to need China's support for this to be a hit.

Aren't many movie theaters in China closed because of the Coronavirus epidemic?

I'm actually really anticipating this because it's a great story. I think PG-13 is on the mark for a more adult adaption.
