I saw that in big supermarkets in Italy. In the produce section, there are dispensers of those very thin plastic gloves. You are supposed to put them on before picking up fruits and vegetables. Does that make sense to you? Isn’t it overkill? I mean, don’t you WASH your tomatoes and red peppers and celery before you use them anyway? Or for most fruit, don’t you have to peel it?
Does anybody here think it is unhygienic to buy apples and tomatoes that have been touched by other shoppers’ bare hands?

I think its overkill, You touch the handle of the grocery carts, you touch other products, people have survived for decades without thin plastic gloves.

It depends. I've seen people go to the bathroom & not wash their hands-both in my shop(I can hear when the faucet goes on & soap is dispensed) & other places. So that alone grosses me out. But yea, the carts & everything else-you touch. Fruits/vegies you should be washing as even pesticides & through shipping people's hands are touching. But me-being in the food biz-I am washing my hands far more during the flu(& beer virus) than ever-more so than I need to.
