I went to see the movie Emma today. Until about 20 minutes till the end I thought it was an ok movie. But then there was this one reaction shot of a woman’s face and in less than 5 seconds it turned the movie around for me. And I now think it was pretty great. This made me think about other shots like that, when you are just looking at someone’s face, and they have no dialogue, they just make a face yet it makes such an emotional impact on you that it either elevated the entire movie or at the very least it is an amazing experience. If there was an Oscar category for reaction shots, which actors/actresses would you give it to for which scenes in which movies? Name up to 3. Mine would be: 1. Miranda Hart for looking “surprise-hurt” In reaction to Emma’s snarky comment about her intelligence in Emma.![](http://tr.web.img2.acsta.net/r_1920_1080/pictures/20/02/10/09/49/0769405.jpg) 2. Alex Wolff for looking “destroyed-catatonic” as a reaction to his mom screaming in Hereditary after she finds the headless body of her daughter . 3. Dustin Hoffman looking “intensely despairing ” as Ben in The Graduate, in the final church scene just before he starts banging on the glass door when he takes a second to think in reaction to seeing that Elaine just got married . ![](https://thumbs.gfycat.com/HeavenlyDefenselessAmoeba-mobile.mp4) Those shots delivered all the feels and did their job, What would yours picks be?
