This will probably make a lot of folks laugh but I've had an HDTV since probably 2008-2009 and I have re-bought movies on blu-ray thinking it would be a significant change, sadly for me I don't notice a HUGE difference. A lot of sites online say to use certain software on a DVD/BD to configure your HDTV for best quality, is that true? If so where is a good site to download this?
Currently I'm watch Temple of Doom on DVD because the blu-ray for me is to bright, also the 80's "feel" seems to be lost the better the quality.

Just to clarify, I think newer movies look great on Blu-Ray just not ones 15-20+ years.

The difference is huge in my opinion. I prefer Blu Ray in all cases....

I don`t think the difference is that big. Yes there is a difference but its not as big as people claim it to be.

What kind of TV do you have? Is it a smaller set? I watch blu ray on a 55 inch OLED set, and a 50 inch Plasma set. The difference is clear as day. If you're watching on a smaller TV that's below 40 inches, then you won't see much of a difference.

There is a difference, but not one so great, that watching DVDs is unsatisfying... I still buy DVDs, based on... age of the TV/Movie, availability of the TV/Movie, overall cost difference, and genre.

A TV screen smaller than 47 inches simply doesn't do Blu-ray any justice.

Well I have two TV's. One is a 24inch which I use for gaming (computer hooked into it).
Then I have a 43inch TV, on the 43 with blu-rays (newer releases) it looks spectacular, however on older movies like say Wrath of Khan (on DVD) it looks nearly as good if not better then the blu-ray, imo of course. I guess when I'm watching 20-30 years old my mind automatically says which is better, perhaps its my mind being tricked into thinking that way....

In my experience most blu-rays look much better than DVDs, but I have seen the occasional blu-ray where, if I hadn't known, I would have guessed that I was watching a DVD. Conversely, I have also seen a select few DVDs where the image was so clear that I wondered if it wasn't actually a blu-ray instead.
