Protesters were lined up instruction people not to shop there because they were non-union. I think a few of them got arrested

Yet another way to put people out of work, have the customer do the job they USED to do and keep prices high. Eye on the bottom line all the time!
If I'm going to be the cashier, check myself out, bag the stuff (or buy the movie ticket as another example), the prices should reflect the money they're saving by not having actual employees.
I was a cashier for years and I rarely use a self checkout.

Sometimes when I bring my cart back to the store I think that if everyone did it, they'd cut staff.. I rarely use self-check but mainly because something will get messed up or not have a code. I double paid for bananas at Walmart, where I rarely go, waited in line a good 5 or 10 minutes and finally just left. I'd go to the store once for the novelty.

I got a friend in Redmond Washington Who is bitching and moaning about this saying it's taking job opportunities as cashiers away from people
Also she hates amazon. She claims they're killing physical stores but really she's just overly butt hurt from a 2014 incident. Mario Kart 8 came out on the wiiU and she was forced to order it on amazon because she had a 50 dollar gift card and she was mad they waited until release date to actually ship it so she was whining about having to wait for it

Amazon has opened one of those stores, here. However, it's down in the heart of the financial district, where I rarely go. So, I haven't explored it, yet. I'm curious to see how it works. One of these days, I'll have to take the "big step," and go downtown. On the question of eliminating jobs, I do have a serious concern. Most of the major chains have introduced self-check-out. Although I haven't seen it at any of the local Whole Foods stores, which Amazon owns. California law prohibits the self-check-out system if it involves the purchase of an alcoholic product.

I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but I'm also a teacher and we are in a MASSIVE fight with our provincial government who is doing everything it can to destroy every union in the province. I am tired of hearing how our jobs are unnecessary and how e-learning can replace teachers. I am tired of being told that an AVERAGE 25 (no class size caps) class is too small. The classes I have taught have been as high as 36. I am tired of having funding cut and being expected to do more with less. But this is a rant for probably another board. I'm sick and tired of corporations always keeping their eye on the bottom line and cutting employees and services in the name of profit to be distributed to shareholders. Sorry again.
