- Actor = Tom Cruise (He's got a strong screen presence (while there are more who are about on par with his presence, they don't have the overall filmography quality that he does, which makes Cruise superior overall) paired with a filmography that no one else can top overall and most importantly he's been in 12 movies I score a 7/10 or higher which not many are even close to that figure which further locks him into my #1 spot overall. for measure... only 155 movies managed to get a 7/10 or higher from me out of the 2,300+ total movies I have seen.) - Actress = Vera Farmiga (she's The Anomaly (I can tear up just looking into her eyes (that look in her eyes and warmth she projects is just straight up Anomaly status as words don't do it justice ) and I would get on my hands and knees and kiss her foot!. when she walks into the room it's light a bright light is around her with that holy grail sound playing ) as no one is more attractive than she is and that reason alone makes her my clear cut #1, PERIOD!. she's been my clear #1 since about 2009 and that's just not going to change as she's The Anomaly as women are just not supposed to be THAT overall attractive, but she somehow is (hell, one could offer me Vera Farmiga vs ALL other women I want on the planet and I am siding with Vera with no hesitation). but with that stuff aside... it also helps that I am not aware of another actress who's got a better overall group of Top 5 movies than Vera, which for me are... 1-3)Up in the Air (2009)/Source Code (2011)/Running Scared (2006) 4)The Departed (2006) 5)At Middleton (2013) ; the first three movies listed are within my Top 39 movies and the last two are within my Top 77 movies.) Sandman Seriously? ; Scar Jo is not even remotely close to Vera in my mind (she's roughly average range for me (or at least does not stand out) unlike Vera who blows pretty much everyone else away). no offense ; but ill still give you praise just for mentioning Vera! p.s. but for kicks, if I had to rank your five I would say... 1)Vera Farmiga 2)Carla Gugino 3-4)Kate Winslet/Scar Jo 5)Alyssa Milano. so we are close in ranking short of Vera as if you take your ranking and slide Vera to the top, the rest would basically rank pretty much the same as me even though Winslet/Scar Jo could flip flop for me.

Vera Farmiga (I can tear up just looking into her eyes (that look in her eyes and warmth she projects is just straight up Anomaly status as words don't do it justice mslo79 Agree! Vera is one of the few actresses I will watch even if the movie does not sound good just because she is in it. I watched every episode of Bates Motel just because Vera was in it.

SandmanYeah, I ain't going to disagree with that ; although I will admit a small amount of her movies (without checking, roughly a handful of them) I could not finish due to boredom (it's not her fault though). but... those I could not finish, I still did fast forward and watch the sections she was in p.s. I still have not finished Bates Motel as the only reason I watched it in the first place is because Vera is in it, like you said. I left off on Bates Motel @ S04E08. ill eventually finish it but it might take a while. because when I watch something with Vera in it, I usually stick to one of five movies... Up in the Air/Source Code/Running Scared/The Departed/At Middleton since these tend to stand out above the rest even though there is some more I do mildly like.

I have two on my DVR that I have not seen with Vera in them. Going to watch one tonight. Can't decide which one. Captive State or Annabelle Comes Home

Sandman It's funny you mention those two as those are basically the two most recent Vera movies I tried to watch but could not finish... -Captive State (2019) - 2/10 (I stopped watching it at 40 min due to boredom. but I did watch all of the Vera parts beyond that point. basically the movie is pretty generic/boring and you can see it tried to use the names in the movie (John Goodman/Vera Farmiga etc) to get people to watch it) -Annabelle Comes Home (2019) - 2/10 (I stopped watching it at 1hr21min. but I did watch all of the Vera parts beyond that point. basically this is watchable for a while but then got quite boring later into the movie and I could not take it anymore. but I watched all of the Vera parts as usual as just looking at her never gets old ; for the record... I like The Conjuring (2013) (which I plan on re-watching in the not too distant future which will make for my 3rd viewing in total) but I did not care for the 2nd movie as it was average. hopefully The Conjuring 3 (2020) is a improvement over the 2nd movie )
on a side note... I have not gotten around to seeing Skin (2018-2019) yet. but I eventually will because Vera is in it
p.s. keep in mind there is only around 166 movies tops that I could not finish due to boredom in general, which is only around 7% of ALL movies I have seen. or I could word it like this... only about 1 out of every 14 movies I have seen over the long term gets turned off due to boredom.
Vera does not have many movies I can't finish but there are some. I have seen a pretty good portion of the movies she appeared in but not all as some are hard to find etc.
but regardless of who appears in a movie... if something is boring, that's pretty much the worst crime a movie can commit as it's like watching paint dry, it's simply not worth it once it's totally boring for any length of time. although in pretty much all other cases... if a movie is boring ill simply turn it off and stop watching but if Vera is in a movie that happens to be boring then once the movie itself would normally be turned off, ill just fast forward to see her

mslo79 First let me say I agree with you. Captive State was not a good movie. But I watched the whole thing because Vera was in it. I thought Annabelle Comes Home was The Conjuring 3. Just went by a different title.

From the classic era: Humphrey Bogart (see Avatar) and Gloria Grahame. I'm not sure I have modern favorites. There is no one who, just with their name in the cast, will make me see a movie. Maybe the closest is Hong Kong martial arts star Donnie Yen. Cynthia Erivo has really knocked me out in the few movies I have seen with her. Among veterans, I have always like Michelle Williams who has very quietly become one of our best female actors.
