I have avoided most of the elm street sequels after the orginal and the only ones i have seen are New Nightmare and Freddy vs Jason (if that counts as an elm street sequel). Are any of the sequels actually worth watching?

The third one seems to be the best according to general consensus. Not to mention, Dokken's "Dream Warriors" is an anthem.

Freddy's Revenge works quite well as a serious horror movie and also has interesting psychological subtext.
Dream Warriors could have been a good movie would it have followed Craven's original ideas. Studio rewrites made a mess out of the story but it's still worth watching once if only because it's the only direct sequel to the original.
Sequels 4-6 are special effect / teen movies and shouldn't be watched as horror movies.

I'm sure most will say New Nightmare, which I find to be quite overrated, but my favorite has always been Dream Warriors.

Probably A New Nightmare, but I like several of the sequels. I don't remember them all, but the ones I do that I like are two, three, and the one where he has an adult daughter.

I'm sure most will say New Nightmare, which I find to be quite overrated, but my favorite has always been Dream Warriors. It was a toss up between these two for me. Dream Warriors is so much fun and New Nightmare was bizarrely ambitious, and had some really cool visuals (Freddy on an Oprah-show). This series took a lot of chances and I'm glad it did. Anyone who hasn't seen the "Never Sleep Again" documentary (which is I think available on Netflix) and loves the Elm Street saga, I highly recommend it. Also, the cockroach death in part IV freaks me out to this day, so honorable mention for that.

2 might be the best sequel for me. i remember people already complaining freddy talked too much in it and people in more modern times mentioning how it had gay undertones but i thought it had some really scary shit in it. 3 was fun and i liked 4,5,6. 7 and the remake weren't good imo.

Part 3...and then New Nightmare.
Iβm partial to Nancy Thompson.

Definitely New Nightmare, but I don't know if that counts as a sequel. It's sort of its own thing.
The best direct sequel is part 3.
