Basically the consensus is, ten to 15 minutes. But I've found out no. For me it has to be at least 20 minutes. Otherwise, if I am cooking something , only in for 16 minutes. … It aint done, really.
Wouldn't you say 15 minutes isn't really enough time? Because if I do it 4 fifteen minutes pre-heating time, the orange light usually comes back on in a few minutes before going off again.
I mean if I am putting something in to bake for an hour, then it doesn't matter if I only pre-heat for 15 minutes. But any other time, should always be 20 minutes pre heating time. Agree?

I didn't think my oven was cooking correctly. I was going to buy an oven thermometer at WalMart for about five dollars when I saw a heat sensor. A/C techs use them. My husband had one. Now I know the temp. It really varies from top to bottom in the oven. My husband uses it to determine soil temp for gardening. You prolly do need that long to preheat

I have an electric oven that automatically pre heats, anything under 450 degrees takes 6 minutes, 450 takes 10 minutes but everything is cooked done.

I've found my gas oven temp is inaccurate for preheating, and cuts off at a significantly lower temperature than it needs to be. So I have a hanging oven thermometer in it and set it to preheat to 500 or more. Then I put my food in and reduce the temperature. But if I want something to cook at 400, 430 is about the right temp to leave it at. I'll recheck it about halfway through.

I think people (like me!)make the mistake of thinking that when the preheat light goes off. That means that is always preheated. Dep[ends on the stove I guess. But it doesn't necessarily mean that it is always preheated … just cuz the light goes off.
I made that mistake too though, lol.
