I know what this thread was and is...just the same, the only correct answer still remains "all the sports". It is, in fact, not. I've watched some great shows/movies based on your and other's opinions on shows/movies that were recommended in this thread.
I typically fall back on sports and horror movies - but thanks to all for all the recs over the last year - appreciated.
Watched numerous movies that I've enjoyed based on all your recs over the past year.

Watched 2 new ones yesterday then today. Underwater was surprisingly not as terrible as expected. It wasn't especially good, and it was definitely kinda dumb, but it was reasonable tense and it actually had some good looking effects. Despite the delayed release it looks like it was a fairly expensive movie. There's not a great deal of logic to the plot or any understanding of basic physics, but then you get some decent looking monsters and one monster in particular that sort of suggests there might be more to this 'universe.' I doubt there will be a sequel, but it references a larger thing. Not exactly good, but I was expecting absolute trash and it was competent. Then I just finished Fantasy Island a few mins ago. Absolute garbage. I never really saw the TV show, but I know some of the famous lines and actors and I get the gist of what it was. This was stupid in every way. The cast isn't bad, and in general I'm always happy to see Michael Peña, and even doing a semi-horror version of this story makes sense, but there's just nothing worthy about it. It also seems like a relatively high budget for the sort of throw away trash that it is, but it's all dumb and even though half of the movie is people explaining why things are happening I was still left wondering about why anyone was doing what they were, and I just can't imagine anyone caring enough about these 1 dimensional characters to pay attention enough to really answer. But then again, I knew that with the pedigree of 'From the creator of Blumhouse's Truth or Dare?' that I would be in for a real shit show.

Going to have to give it a watch this week if it's free on my cable package
The trailer always reminded me of 'Alien Underwater'

Madman (1982) - in the mood for some cheesey 80s slasher flicks
By God this is horrible - but for some reason can't turn it off
Never finished 'Chopping Mall' a week ago - going to finish that up and maybe Slumber Party Massacre after that - and then maybe Basket Case which is tremendous

As far as I know none of the other 80s slasher got their own theme song. Theme music, yes, but a cheesey song with cheesey lyrics that is part of the movie is unique to that one I think.

I've got about 20 minutes left
Have it on in the background
I expected a lot worse to be honest - like completely unwatchable but I've made it through
I expected the older camp counselor to actually be the killer - but then I saw 'Madman' which looks like a cheap rubber monkey suit - I had to start cracking up when the movie showed his bare feet during the hanging scene - I actually think they were black rubber feet.........

I watched Underwater a few months ago, I pretty much feel the same way. Not great, but I was expecting real dreck. The cast is all pretty good, and I always like it when Vincent Cassel pops up in things. Usually, the mere sight of TJ Miller, the single most obnoxious person in movies today, makes me run for the hills but he was demonstrably less annoying in this one. Recently, I watched both Tenet (co-starring Robert Pattinson) and Seberg (starring Kristen Stewart). I enjoyed Tenet a lot more than I expected to, and Seberg was just OK, but both Pattinson and Stewart were really good in these movies. I bring it up because my wife watched both with me. For the duration of Seberg, she just kept muttering things to the effect of "all I see is Twilight." Now putting aside the fact that I HATE, with unbridled passion, when anyone, whether I have sex with them or not, talks during a movie, I found it interesting that she kept saying that during Seberg, but made nary a mention of it during Tenet. Just so we're clear, Twilight is some of the worst shit ever put to celluloid, and yes, they are both terrible in those movies, but everyone is terrible in them. Richard Burton and Meryl Streep would win Razzies if they starred in those movies. But since then, I think both Pattinson and Stewart have shown that they are good actors. It's funny how people still give Stewart endless shit about her role in Twilight while Pattinson seems to have shed that "stigma." You'll even see critics say things along the lines of "do you think Stewart regrets doing those movies?" The unequivocal answer is no, obviously. Besides making her filthy rich, it gave her the chance she wouldn't have otherwise received. Her blockbuster career hasn't been great but she's done a bunch of really solid indie work. Anyway, I just find it interesting.

I watched “Unknown”, a thriller with Liam Neeson from a few years ago. I remember seeing the previews for it when it came out and being moderately interested, but I ended up missing it. Liam Neeson plays an American professor who travels to Berlin with his wife for a scientific conference, gets into a car accident, and after a few days in a coma wakes up to find out that nobody recognises him, not even his own wife. An entertaining and clever little thriller.

Anyway, I just find it interesting. Yeah TJ Miller sucks and is fucking annoying. Silicon Valley got better when he left. I remember seeing the trailer for Underwater and thinking 'isn't his career over for getting in trouble and also everybody realizing he sucks?' It turned out that that movie sat on the shelf for like 3 years. That usually means that you're in store for a disaster, and maybe TJ Miller's shittiness was part of the delay, but the movie turned out to be pretty much mediocre, which is better than I would have expected had it not been held back. I agree that even though Vincent Cassel doesn't have much to do, he's always a welcome presence. I haven't seen Tenet. I know a lot of people were sorely disappointed by it, but I'm not really much of fan of Christopher Nolan anyway, and the reviews don't give me the highest expectations so I likely won't be let down. I'll scope it out eventually. I give credit to both Pattinson and Stewart for rolling their considerable fame into getting small and weird movies made with interesting filmmakers that might otherwise have trouble getting something off the ground. I just don't care for her. She's extremely monotone and only has one facial expression. When she's a person trying to stay calm through a crisis that works, but her blandness sinks other moments. She was in a christmas romantic comedy about a lesbian couple this past year and just seeing the clips of her trying to pull off light, airy comedy dialogue was like a painful strain to sit through. I commend her choices, but I just don't think she's very good.

I don't entirely remember the solution to that but I remember thinking it was a little cheap and dumb. Liam Neeson was once a highly respected actor. I wonder if he's having more fun with the sort of cheap action thrillers he's almost exclusively been making for the last decade or so.

Watching Underwater right now
I have a theory
At the end of AvP - the mother Alien gets dragged underwater in the Antarctic
These are hybrids of Xenomorphs (Aliens)

Fight Club is on AMC right now Haven't seen this in years Loved it Just know it became cool and edgy to hate on it - like how it became cool and edgy to hate on The Boondock Saints Oh you're so cool and edgy - you're going to go against the grain just to be different - Fight Club and The Boondock Saints are too low brow for your tastes

Yeah, it's not a rock-solid plot but I thought it was well-constructed and it kept me guessing, with a twist that I only saw coming near the end, and only partially at that.

I feel like it's still given a lot of credit. Boondocks Saints is ... fine. It's kinda stupid, but mostly fun. Willem Dafoe seemed to be having a blast making it. There's a documentary about how much of an inflated ego the writer/director had and what a douchebag became... from what I understand, that is... I haven't seen it, but I've heard it's interesting. But it also came out years ago and my guess is he is not as unseemly a character as Harvey Weinstein, who I imagine is also in it. It's called Overnight.

So - I'm late to the party on 'Get Out' It's on FX now I guess I'm i the 0.01% who thinks the plot is incredibly stupid? And you're talking to somebody who is a fan of 'Basket Case'
** Edit - I have a much better way of writing/directing this movie. It's a ghost story. The white folk are actually slave owners and trying to get this black kid into their 'family' so he can work for them as a slave. Now isn't that much better?
