It sounds to me that since you only watch horror movies and Air Bud sequels you probably haven't seen Michael Keaton in much of anything. I have seen him in White Noise, and Beetlejuice. That's plenty. Check this out
It's one of the greatest comedies of All-Time

That's plenty. I've only seen Tom Hanks in The Burbs, and I've never watched a Nicolas Cage film... But I know their type. I've got their number. So you haven't seen him in much of anything, and yet you've seen him play two wildly different characters. And you haven't seen anything from the other two. You might not win this one in debate club.

As part of my lockdown pull a random DVD out of the pile last night... I rewatched the Pet Sematary remake.
Yeah but no but... I kind of like it, but it's not a patch on the original.
I'm still bugged by the fact that Jud knows that no good can come from the Mikmak burial ground, yet still takes the guy up there to bury the cat 🤷♀️

I loved the twist they put on it
Thought the atmosphere and acting were superb and thought Lithgow was a fine replacement for Fredd Gwynn
The ending was fantastic.
I quite enjoyed the original - but this is yet another example on how the remake far outshines its predecessor.

The original is far better (apart from the zooming face thing, that sucked).

The original is far better (apart from the zooming face thing, that sucked). I like to compare it to the Halloween debate
Those that say Zombie's take on the movie is junk
It's just a different interesting perspective - his way of doing the movie and his view on Michael
I bet you didn't see the truck twist coming in the remake of Pet Sematary did you?

I saw it coming because they foolishly put it in the trailer. The movie tries to play on you knowing the original story and/or movie by misleading you into thinking it's the boy again before making the switch, but they blew it by advertising that they were doing that. And I was actually all for that switch, I thought it could have been an interesting different way to approach it. And new ways to approach material is welcome. But when it sucks it sucks and this movie fucking sucks. Like Rob Zombie's Halloween.

Scene after scene of characters explaining things to other characters. Nothing is shown, everything is explained. There is even one scene where Lithgow's Judd literally sits down and reads a book and basically says "this is what it happening." If you can't show the audience what you're doing, then don't bother.

There is even one scene where Lithgow's Judd literally sits down and reads a book and basically says "this is what it happening." If you can't show the audience what you're doing, then don't bother. Very true. In the original movie there's a brief little montage of the history of people who have come back from the burial ground that shows who they were, the circumstances that lead to the desperate act, and what the results were. It's quick and minimal, but it's efficient and goes a long way into setting up the stakes. There are some ok visual moments, like the way Jason Clarke walks through a doorway into the woods in one of his dream sequences, and the cat looks eerie at times. But that's about it. In the original you really get the sense as you're approaching the ending that the guy is in emotional turmoil and he's stacking terrible decision upon terrible decision but he's justifying it because of the pain he's in and you can understand it based on the context of the story. That ending fully works, and that's in spite of the fact that the lead actor in the original movie kinda sucks. The script is just that much better. The new movie just has a bunch of ugly and bad shit happen at the end but with little thought as to why anyone is doing anything. The last moments are kinda funny because they're so relentlessly grim, but that misses the point of everything the story is supposed to be. Plus they had fucking John Lithgow and gave him absolutely nothing interesting to do. That's a crime in and of itself. On a side note I recently listened to a radio drama version from the 90s made for BBC radio. That was pretty great. The best adaptation, I think.

The Crown.
Some sort of documentary of a highly dysfunctional family from the UK.

Just got done watching The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford Beautiful movie if you like slow movies with great atmosphere/scenery I have one small complaint - did they have to get the Narrator from Stand By Me to talk all the way through it? I had the same problem with Stand By Me - his nasally weasely voice worming his way into my ears all throughout the movie when I just want to watch the flick - I found it to be a distraction and irritation as opposed to helping move the flick along smoothly
Imagine listening to Ron Howard with a more nasally voice talk his way through 3 hours of a movie - this is what it was like

Ooh, it's another Stephen King adaptation.
'Dreamcatcher'
Not one of the best SK adaptations. Has too many problems.

'Not one of the best' is putting it very mildly. I think it's one of the absolute worst. I hear ya, but it was pulled out, so it's gonna get watched. Great snowy atmosphere and a pretty top shelf cast, so it's not all bad. It's fun seeing A-listers embarrass themselves in high budget garbage. Not sure of you've seen Doctor Sleep, but the director tries to visualize some of the same outlandish and sort of Stephen King-ian metaphysical and abstract stuff in that movie in similar ways but manages it much more successfully.

Yesterday someone on the Film General board posted a link to a revised list of the 1000 best films of all time. www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_all1000films_table.phpThese are the top 10: Citizen Kane Vertigo 2001 The Rules of the Game Tokyo Story 8 1/2 The Godfather Sunrise The Searchers Seven Samurai The only one of those that I hadn’t seen was Sunrise (an F. W. Murnau silent movie from 1927), so I figured that would be a good pick for a movie to watch in the evening. It was OK, but if I had gone into it blindly without knowing beforehand that it is so well-regarded, I would have never guessed it. The story is about a couple who used to be happy but are now practically strangers. He has a lover who wants him to run away with her. He is tempted to, but ends up rediscovering the love for his wife. The beginning and the end are very dramatic and visually striking, but the entire middle section is of a more comedic tone and felt like filler. It was worth it more as a historical curiosity than as a movie standing on its own two feet.
