Just going to start Taken (2008) and have high hopes that it would be entertaining. It's wank imo!

I watched "Wrath of Man" yesterday, the new Guy Ritchie/Jason Statham movie that just came out. I am not a big fan of Jason Statham, although I have mostly enjoyed the few of his movies that I have seen. And with a few exceptions, I usually like Guy Ritchie's movies. As anyone minimally familiar with the work of those two guys could probably guess, this is an action thriller. Nothing terribly innovative, but it has an interesting structure and good action. Pretty decent overall. I watched it in a movie theatre, which was a bit depressing. A huge theatre and only six people in the audience. This on a Friday evening in a theatre that in normal times would have been crowded. I hope that is not a sign of things to come once the pandemic is over. Saw it in the theater as well, although ours was fairly crowded (by covid restriction standards). I'm a Ritchie fan and I have to say I was disappointed in this one. It had the Ritchie hallmarks of nonlinear storytelling, but I thought the structure didn't suit the story. They waited too long to introduce Jeffrey Donovan's character, to the point that he and his entire crew felt tacked on. You were already invested in Statham's story, it didn't really matter who the bad guys were at this point...so why waste time with birthday parties etc as if the audience is going to care what happens to him? He should've gone back and forth between the two crews from the beginning, building tension and letting the audience decide who they wanted to root for in the end; since neither side was comprised of particularly good people. Also, I don't know whether to blame Ritchie or the actors but overall I thought the movie was filled with poor performances from otherwise decent character actors. A lot of the dialog was delivered as if you were having the waitstaff at a restaurant do a table read-- like the actors had no context for what kind of person they were playing and how they would talk. Very off putting for any film, but especially a Ritchie script. The score didn't suit the material at all. Way too dark, even at the beginning when it's all playful banter between the drivers. It added to the overall sense that the film never really found itself in terms of tone. At times it tried to be vintage Ritchie with the quippy characters, but none of them were mean enough, odd enough or crazy enough to put them in the pantheon of Ritchie characters. They were neither menacing nor humorous. It was like someone doing a bad knockoff of a Ritchie film; or like Ritchie trying to change his style but couldn't do it? The flow of the story just wasn't there.
I watched the French original, "Le Convoyeur" (Cash Truck) (2004) yesterday. It was OK. Same basic premise of a guy who infiltrates an armored car company in order to find out who's responsible for the death of his son during the course of an earlier robbery, but with one MAJOR change: the protagonist is just a regular guy, not the leader of a crime gang who's also a one-man army. So it's a lot more down-to-earth and less of an action movie. Also, the bad gang is just a bunch of guys in masks shooting up armored cars and ruthlessly killing anyone who gets in their way; we don't even see their faces, let alone see them interacting with their families outside of "work".

4th season of Cheers on my first watchthrough (is that even a word...?)
Liking it, but not loving it. Kinda feel like I don't want to watch the rest - still got a long way to go - but feel like I've gone too far to stop now.

Canadian film Blood Relatives, directed by the French Hitchcock, Claude Chabrol.
Donald Sutherland is good as a police detective investigating the murder of a teenage girl in Montreal.
It's Okish I suppose, but they dubbed the French actress Stephanie Audran for some reason, and a few others, and it sounds pretty naff.
Based on an Ed McBain novel.
I last saw it about two or three decades ago, but I remembered who the killer was straight away, which was a bit annoying.

I get that's kind of her schtick, but still.

But haven't watched it in years upon years
Is this your first watch?
What characters are offputting to you?
I thought the show really took off with Woody, Rebecca and Frasier/Lilith
But I thought Sam's character did kind of get a bit dopey when he lost the bar - but it's been years - maybe I'll have to rewatch it

Yes, it’s my first watch. Offputting? Diane is annoying and sanctimonious, but I guess that’s kind of her gimmick, but still. Carla’s funny but can be overly rude sometimes, don’t know where the hell she gets off putting everybody down. I was pretty disappointed with how they handled the coach dying. Sam just mentioned it once and (so far) no one else has even mentioned him.

Maybe an episode a day
This was one of my all-time favorite shows
I thought the addition of Woody to replace coach was pretty well done especially with how they introduced him. Didn't he know Coach - and he was just a dopier younger version
Carla did rub me the wrong way too - but it was kind of her schtick (like Diane's to be annoying)
I friggin' loved Cliff - probably my favorite character outside of Sam and Woody

Frasier is my favourite sitcom of all time. I thought about watching Cheers, to see the origins of the character, but I never got around to it. For some reason it doesn't appeal to me much.

Frasier was great
Loved Niles
Interesting poll question - which was better - Cheers or Frasier
I go Cheers though....

Need some new horror flicks to watch
Scouring over everything 'free' on my cable package under 'Horror' -
Stallone in a horror movie?
'Eye See You' - 2002 -
'An FBI Agent (Sylvester Stallone) searches for a serial killer at a clinic'
28% score
Let's give it a whirl - how bad can it be - Sly is in it

15 minutes into 'Eye See You' (originally titled 'D-Tox') This is like a quasi/hybrid - 7even / SAW crossover involving Sly - it's awesome

I'm really enjoying it thus far
Over an hour into it. All-Star cast. Can watch anything with Robert Patrick
After the first 15 minutes it dropped the 7even/SAW path and when they went to the clinic - there's hints of -
Identity The Thing The Shining Alien Predator
High Tension (I think Sly is actually the killer)
Prediction - I think Sly died during his suicide attempt and the clinic scene that follows is how Sly committed all the murders when he was alive
Not everybody's cup of tea but I don't know how this fell under the radar for me
