Badlands (1973). I'm a New Hollywood guy - - they are my films of choice. I'm running out of them, but still have some I've never seen before. Badlands was one of them. Was it trying to piggyback off of Bonnie and Clyde? I think so. Still, I'm glad I saw it, even if the scenery was the best part about it. Sissy Spacek has a really interesting career, IMO.

And off Space Jam 2 goes after 45 minutes or so! Anyone ever here of the 'Fear Street' movies on Netflix? Just stumbled across them - looks like they have high scores Let's give em a whirl 'Fear Street Part One: 1994' (2021) 'A teen and her friends take on an evil force that's plagued their notorious town for centuries.' 82% Rotten Tomato Score / 63 Popcorn Score Let's Do It!

The Space Jam 2 reviews are really funny. It's nice to occasionally see a movie get broadly panned and have critics get very creative with their language in describing how much they hate it. I'll probably watch it out of curiosity as long as I don't have to pay the ticket price. Haven't gotten to the 3rd movie yet, but they're diverting fun for the most part. Those 1994 kids seem decidedly un-90s to me, and movies are very digital and modern looking whether they take place in the 90s, 70s, or 1600s; which is a little annoying. But for the most part they're entertaining. They are fast paced, there's a semi-interesting premise tying them together, and there's a surprising amount of blood and gore. The 3rd movie hasn't been as well received, but I'll definitely be watching it. It's also interesting to see them calling this a movie trilogy with each part released week after week. It's more of the blurring line between TV and movies. There's really no difference between this and a season of TV show or miniseries.

Had '1994' on in the background for the most part (had my attention for the 1st third or so) - seemed like it was giving nods at times to certain slasher flicks/horror movies from the 90s. Enjoyed it enough - and the 90s soundtrack.....
Going to give the 2nd a watch right now -
Fear Street Part Two: 1978
(2021) - 'A summer of fun turns into a gruesome fight for survival as a killer terrorizes Camp Nightwing'
89% Rotten Tomato Score / 82% Popcorn Score
Hoping for some retro Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp, etc nods - hope it's a little better than American Horror Story 1984 which started off tremendous but fell off a cliff
Let's Give It A Whirl!

Out of my undying love for Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), I watched her new action movie “Gunpowder Milkshake” on Netflix. It’s sort of an all-female John Wick wannabe. It’s the kind of movie that if you take it seriously, it is impossible to enjoy, but if you go into it willing to forgive its more preposterous elements, you might have a good time. I did.

Wolf Creek 2
Not half as fun as the original but it's still Mick
Still waiting for the TV Show to become 'Free' (as well as Stephen King's Castle Rock)

I watched The ‘Burbs last night, a 1989 comedy with Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher. I knew about it but I had never seen it. Apparently it flopped when it came out (Tom Hanks wasn’t a superstar yet) and then later it acquired something of a Cult status. Tom Hanks plays a suburban home-owner who suspects that the weird people who moved to the house next door are up to no good, and with the help of his wacky neighbours sets out to uncover the truth.
I had a few laughs but there is no danger of it breaking into my list of Top 10 comedies ever.

Quite enjoyed it - got the charm of a cheesey late 80s/early 90s light hearted comedy - miss Hanks in those roles - i.e. Big, Splash....
Might get an 80s marathon going today - Breakfast Club, Weird Science....

Never saw the first Space Jam, this looks even worse. They couldn't find anyone who remotely sounds like the classic versions of those cartoon characters? It's funny how they basically turned it into Ready Player One by throwing in a bunch of IP. It would've been a neat idea if it hadn't been done already.

I never saw the 1st Space Jam either - kind of shocked now that I think about it that I never even attempted it
I wanted to see what all the fuss was about - i.e. as far as all of the horrible reviews were all about in regards to 2.
But I agree with it's defenders - it's a kids movie for kids.
I think if you're an adult and you thoroughly enjoy this film - there may be a problem
I couldn't take anymore after about 45 minutes - and I like to finish a movie out even if I still just have it on in the background

Weird Science left a permanent impression on me even though I don't think I've watched it more than once. It wasn't because of the cinematography or the soundtrack, I can tell you that!

It's funny how they basically turned it into Ready Player One by throwing in a bunch of IP. It would've been a neat idea if it hadn't been done already. The voices aren't quite as bad as they sounded in the trailer, but the movie is as bad as you might think. It's pretty much bad and lame in all the ways you'd expect and by the time Porky Pig has to win the freestyle rap section of the basketball video game the movie has lost the audience completely. The Warner Bros IP is the most egregious part of it (do the little kids that the movie is aimed care about the Casablanca 'planet' that LeBron falls past?), and they think they can get away with is by making fun if that very idea and calling it lazy in the dialogue of the movie, but then they just go ahead and do it anyway... also the constant other product placement. One of the first things you see when cartoon LeBron falls into the cartoon world is the hole that he left when he falls to the Looney Tune world is in the shape of the Nike logo. Gross... Nobody expected this to be really good, but the first has a nostalgic charm and plays by the cartoon logic of Looney Tunes better than you think. Also, it has an amusing side story with other NBA stars of the time and also Bill Murray who pretty much improves anything he is in. ..But this one's worse than it needed to be. It certainly feels lazily written, but that's no shock (LeBron's son wants to be a computer coder instead of a basketball player! What a conflict!), what was most surprising to me was that with all of the money this clearly cost that some of the visual details are so poor. The crowd on either side is populated by the heroes and villains of other Warner Bros properties. So you see behind the bad guy's bench, for instance, that Mr Freeze and The Penguin from the Batman movies are standing around and cheering or booing. But they look like terrible, lazy cosplayers at a small, local comic-con in a middle school gym. And they never seem to be reacting to what's going on, they're just constantly in background doing background crowd extra stuff. Always in motion. Never relevant to what's happening. And they look terrible. I honestly think they were intended to be out of focus but the director didn't know how to achieve that and/or the DP just didn't bother. Also, LeBron can't act. Not that Jordan really could, but they didn't ask Jordan to do as much. At least they gave LeBron a ridiculous house Towering over LA. In the original we were supposed to believe that Michael Jordan lived in a humble Chicago suburb with neighbors close by and he walked out to the curb in a bathrobe to get the paper in the morning.

I recorded the party that was essentially the expansion selection show for the Seattle Kraken last night. I was somewhat anxious about this as Carey Price, the star goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, was left unprotected. However, I made a huge sigh of relief when Cale Fleury was selected from the Canadiens. Worked out well because Hayden, Cale's brother, was selected from the Anaheim Ducks. Joker's Wilde

I watched Nobody yesterday evening, an action movie written by the same guy who wrote the John Wick movies (and it shows). Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) pulls a Liam Neeson here, in the role of an ordinary family man dragged into a catastrophic sequence of events following a run-of-the-mill home invasion. It was a pretty good and stylish action movie with some great fight choreography. It’s a bit over the top at times, but not nearly by as much as its older brothers in the John Wick franchise. I think fans of the genre would probably find something to enjoy. Watched this one last night. It's good fun. Pretty much exactly what I thought, but maybe a little bit lighter on story... which I really didn't mind. His whole thing is that he's still an elusive mystery so they give you hints of what his whole deal was without full on exposition. The way they handled that exposition was pretty funny and clever I thought. And Christopher Lloyd was clearly having a fucking blast. They'd obviously like to make a sequel and I think it did well enough to warrant one financially. I'd watch more of it.

I'm getting into Halloween mode (I am all year but more so when Summer starts to wind down) - any new horror recs you've got would be greatly appreciated
Hey FJ - if you're out there hope all's well and come back soon - need some horror recs....
