Watched this one last night. It's good fun. Pretty much exactly what I thought, but maybe a little bit lighter on story... which I really didn't mind. His whole thing is that he's still an elusive mystery so they give you hints of what his whole deal was without full on exposition. The way they handled that exposition was pretty funny and clever I thought. And Christopher Lloyd was clearly having a fucking blast. They'd obviously like to make a sequel and I think it did well enough to warrant one financially. I'd watch more of it. I'm getting into Halloween mode (I am all year but more so when Summer starts to wind down) - any new horror recs you've got would be greatly appreciated
Hey FJ - if you're out there hope all's well and come back soon - need some horror recs....
Jesus, you're a walking back to school ad! It's July 22 and you're talking about Summer winding down. Every day I look at my daily reports and projections going out three months, and I have to remind myself to live in the now. I know the grocery stores start selling Halloween candy in August now, and as much as I'm Mr. Halloween, I refuse to get hyped for it until at least September.

Know what that means - my 2nd favorite Holiday behind Halloween - Thanksgiving is only 4 months away
After the 4th of July - I just want Fall to get here - temps in the 50s, jeans/hoodies, college football, pro football, mlb playoffs, college basketball, hockey, nba starting back up ...........

Hmmm.. can't think of anything very recent other than those Fear Street movies. Haven't caught up with the 3rd yet, but they're pretty fun. They reminded me a little bit of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie, which was kinda fun too, but PG-13 so way less violent. There's a movie called His House on Netflix that I thought was excellent, but not in a fun, Halloween-ish kinda way. It's social commentary kinda thing, but done in a way that's not entirely in your face and doesn't take all the typical approaches you'd imagine. It's very upsetting and disturbing, and framed as a very effective horror movie, but it's the human drama that works best... but again not very recent, and not fun. I watched something last year called Candy Corn that was very amateurish and quite dumb, but very Halloweenish. Another movie I saw last year that fits that description was called Trick. Have you seen Blood Fest or Hell Fest? Both are kinda dumb fun and they both sorta take different approaches at the same idea. One plays it straight and one is sillier and more self referential. I watched The Curse of La Llorona recently. Basically sucked. Yet another Conjuring thing. None of those ever worked for me. That most recent Conjuring also felt like just another one of many that are all the same bland thing over and over again. Willy's Wonderland was ok. Wasn't sorry I saw it, and since you are one to have something on in the background and not pay attention to it this one could work well for that. It's often wordless setpiece sequences and the imagery is ok. The Wolf of Snow Hollow was decent. I saw that recently. The main character is kind of a dick with an anger problem played by the writer director. I found him to be a really believable and natural performer in what is clearly a heightened genre film. Decent cast including Robert Forster in his last role, and a good snowy, small ski-resort mountain tow. atmosphere. It's a werewolf/murder mystery thing. Pretty solid bit of entertainment. I also caught up on a bunch of Italian trash ripoffs from Bruno Mattei and Joe D'Amato.

It's good to know that some other guys go into Michael's
I got matting and framing done there for a handful of pieces I own of Boathouse Row
They also sell solid color T's - can't beat it - like 3 for $10

I did some paintings recently for decorations my friend's wedding. Ended up getting commissioned to do some more when I was there. I studied art in school, but it's really just a hobby, but occasionally somebody asks me to do something and I can make some cash on the side. I also tend to make a bunch of stuff like signs, paintings, and sculptures as Halloween decorations and we make our own costumes and makeup, food and drinks for our annual Halloween party.

I mean you guys aren't wrong. July and August are basically the January/February of the Summer. Starts off with a holiday, then two months of basically nothing interesting on the calendar and the weather is stuck on one extreme. Still, I want to enjoy the long days and vacations with my family. Fall will be here soon enough. If you really want time to fly, have some kids.

Usually August is when I get to travel, so I have no contempt for it... can't go international this year, but we'll try to go somewhere. And time flies by plenty. I'm in no hurry to quicken it. I try to enjoy myself through the extraordinary amount of sweat I expel this time of year, but I just get especially excited when it gets cool enough to put on a hoodie. Seeing those orange and yellow leaf tones in a store just gives me a pavlovian response. I can't help it.

Free Horror via EPIX - From the Director of masterpieces Godzilla vs. Kong and Blair Witch - 'You're Next' (2013) 'Family members fight back when killers in animal masks break into their home.' I feel as if there's like 20 movies out there with this same plot in the 2000s. Never saw this one though. 79% Rotten Tomato Score / 60% Popcorn Score Let's Give It A Whirl!

Loved it! I had a feeling that you might. Have you seen The Guest? I have not
Watching my local news - but just searched for it on my cable package it and it says it's free on Netflix
Sounds interesting and has a high score - you recommend it?
After reading the synopsis I'm betting the man who claims to be a friend of their late son turns out to be a sadistic killer - or is in fact their son
Going to get it going after another 15 minutes or so of news.........

Same director. It's fun, and has a Halloween backdrop, but it's not really a horror movie. More actiony. It's entertaining.

Enjoyed it
Soundtrack and the lead actor reminded me of watching Drive with Ryan Gosling at times
Enjoyed the father - just saw him in a movie called 'Faults' which was a borefest but had an incredibly disturbing ending
Thanks for the rec

BBC America
'The secretive lives of mountain animals; snow leopards come together to help a mother and cub, trapped between rival males.'
Stunning.

Watched Freaky (2020) last night after an excruciatingly long drive home from Acadia. The classic "body switch" movie with the twist of one of the participants being a serial killer, and the other is a high school girl. From Christopher Landon who helmed Happy Death Day and its sequel, the former of which I felt was entertaining enough (the sequel was tedious).
Freaky is overall a pretty fun movie, as it wisely leans into its silliness to mask its razor thin script and one-dimensional character trappings. Doesn't quite grab the bull by the horns, but the movie is worth watching for Vince Vaughn, who is hilarious.

Highway traffic felt worse this year than in past years, didn't it? Acadia, really all of Mt. Desert Island is fantastic.

Highway traffic felt worse this year than in past years, didn't it? Acadia, really all of Mt. Desert Island is fantastic. It's just about 500 miles so it should have taken 8 hours on a normal day, including one stop for gas, a few pee breaks for my wife (who has to pee as if she's 8 months' pregnant) and normal traffic at the Throgs Neck. We had our dog with us so we made longer stops than we normally do but even with that, the last 100 miles took about 3:15 without stopping. It was rough. All of it was just congestion too. No accidents, no construction, just massive amounts of people. That's actually why I don't travel in the summer, there are always just so many more people. September is my ideal travel month. It's still warm out but everyone is back in school or back to work so everything is just a lot less crowded, everywhere.
