We're on the last episode of The Outsider. It's okay, I didn't even know it was Stephen King but I said about by episode 5 "this is like a Stephen King formula" not realized it was actually his. I'm about to start Last Dance. Two movies I just watched that I thought were great: Upgrade and The Girl with all the Gifts (highly recommend) Two movies I was bored stiff: Thunder Road (holy crap this sucked) and The Big Sick (just okay). Also about to start some Costner movies. Just finished Mr. Brooks for the second time, super solid movie. I found The Outsider very meh. Took ages to get going. Didn’t really come alive until the last two episodes.

I would like to have a try of Stranger Things... but I don't think it's on DVD for some reason.
It is here in North America - at least series 1. The box looks like a VHS box, in keeping with the 80s theme.

Just started watching The Molly Maguires with Richard Harris and Sean Connery.
I like Arthur Conan Doyle. Can’t actually remember if I’ve watched this before.
I’m already on Team Frank Finlay!
Hang the Maguires!

I started watching the Big Sick but it had the whiff of shite about it so I stopped. Not a big romcom fan.

We finished 9th episode and it was far and away the best. if I wasn't watching with my lady I'd probably have fast forwarded through most of it.

The first handful of episodes I was all in, and then about midway through it lost steam. By the end, I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Maybe it’s the source material, but Ben Mendelsohn’s character was so infuriatingly stubborn that I wanted to kidney punch him. Loved Girl With All The Gifts though. My wife is working tonight so I get full control over the remote. What shall tonight’s viewing be?!

I swear, I almost gave up on Girl with the All the Gifts, the opening was so boring and I only got because of a list of great movies from this decade and I was going "what the hell," but I stuck with it. Just loved it, so original and well done in a time when there are a thousand cliched zombie movies, they finally put out something original. I've also been going through Andrew Davis films - one of the great underrated action directors. he did the Fugitive but also did a few other underrated films. Watching Above the law which is still Seagal's best film and really well done. interestingly, almost the same cast as a movie David did a couple years earlier with Chuck Norris called Code of silence which I believe is his best film.

I just found out that Britannia is available on Sonyliv in India and I have a subscription to it so I can actually watch it. So what kind of TV series is it? serious/fantasy/comedy? How would you compare it with Spartacus? I can't compare it with Spartacus (either the latest one or the Blood And Sand thingy), but in it's own right I find it very entertaining, sometimes funny, and while clearly not giving a shit about historical exactitude for me actually manages to evoke the era quite well in some ways (I've read many novels set in that era which fail to do so). The major characters are all played by strong actors, which helps a lot too. I just finished the first episode of the first season. I liked it. I am going to watch it all. Thanks to you and Wullie.

Maybe I should revisit based on your reviews.
Think I was distracted and really wasn't into it and decided never to go back to it to finish........

yeah, it starts out terribly, imo. But then it picks up and it's really well written, it's got some really original stuff for a zombie movie. I really liked it a lot and liked the ending. Stick with it. I gave up at first too

Just watched a nice little French movie called Conversations with my Gardener. Daniel Auteuil plays a painter who moves back to the village of his birth after living in Paris for many years. He is separated from his wife. He engages a gardener from the local village and it turns out to be one of his old school friends, a retired railwayman. Most of the film is scenes of the two men getting to know each other again. The acting is fantastic. DA has always been one of my favourite French actors, and the actor playing the gardener, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, is every bit as good. www.imdb.com/title/tt0825244/referenceHighly recommended.

MEDICI
Charting the rise of the great Italian bankers, the most famous of whom, Lorenzo is credited with introducing The Renaissance to Italy but also seems to have spent most of his life warring with other bankers and Popes. The early episodes (3 seasons) are pretty duff but once it finds its feet, it takes off, especially when Daniel Sharman, playing Lorenzo comes on the scene. He dominates the show as indeed, Lorenzo did in Florence when he ruled. Famous men from that era appear with more than walk-on parts. Sixtus IV, Riaro, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Da Vinci, Vinnie Jones, John Terry, Beckham, and not least Savonarola, the monk who epitomized "fire & brimstone" and gave us the first "Bonfire of the Vanities". There are armies and suggestions of impending warfare (using Da Vinci's inventions) but if truth be told Italians (ancient Romans excepted) never liked fighting. The armies would meet on a field somewhere, face up to one another until one side paid the other a few quid and they all went home. And if nothing else, MEDICI shows us how much the Italians enjoy "doing a deal", whether it be the election of a new pope or getting your 14 year-old son appointed a cardinal, the brown envelope ruled. It is shot, beautifully, in Florence which, if you've ever been there you will know, has changed little since the days when the Medici reigned supreme there.

Just finished watching the second Season of Fargo. Really not too sure what to make of that whatsoever! 🤔 Watch it again. It is such a change from S01 I didn't like it first time I saw it but I warched it again, not too long ago and when you forget S01 and watch this on its own merits, it's a bit of a clasic.
