Karate Kid III I thought this was a step up from II folks - the traveling to Japan or China/whatever in II did little for me - especially after learning Ali dumped him in the beginning of II after being completely head of heels for him like a day earlier. Fat, obnoxious Daniel LaRusso is always a sight to behold. He's such a whiny twat in this movie, it's hilarious. He's great every time he shows up in The Deuce. He's such a slimeball in that show.

Watched American Gigolo (1980) tonight. Written by Paul Schrader who also wrote Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, and First Reformed.
Let's just say, one of them wasn't like the others.

Watched Norwegian Wood (2010). Film version of Murakami's novel. Bit slow but some nice scenery and three or four cute Japanese chicks. My favourite by a mile was Rinko Kikuchi. You may remember her from Babel (the deaf girl) and Pacific Rim. Great actress and rather lovely.

Amazon Prime has the three Back to the Future films available to watch free to subscribers just now.
Pretty sure I'd never watched them before.
I'm half way through the third one. Pretty entertaining films. I think the first was the best, but they're all worth a watch.

I figured the right movie to watch today would be July 1st, The Movie (2004), a Quebec comedy. I had already watched it when it came out, and liked it well enough for a re-watch. July 1st is Canada Day, a national holiday, but in Quebec it's also Moving Day - the day when, for some reason, the vast majority of residential leases expire. So people who rent and want to move, usually do it on July 1st. The movie is about that; a few interconnected stories of people moving. A couple moving in together for the first time; a family moving out from Montreal to a small town, against the wishes of their teenage son; a girl and her two male roommates who are kicked out when it turns out she hasn't passed on the rent money to the landlord for the past four months. I had given it an 8 on IMDb when I first watched it and I stand by that rating 16 years later.

It was always a big hole in my pop culture knowledge! Its been plugged now though, at age 56!

I never knew that Eric Stoltz (Mask, Some Kind of Wonderful, Pulp Fiction) was in line to play Marty before Michael J. Fox -

I’m binge-watching Seinfeld on Stan (a streaming service). I’ve got them all on DVD but it’s more convenient to stream than getting up to remove/insert discs.

Fox got the role in the end - he was so perfect as Marty McFly that it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role. A bit like Tom Selleck/Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones.

Magnum P.I. was supposed to play Indy?
That's awesome!
It's an interesting question/discussion - i.e. what iconic roles could have gone to other actors.
Apparently Leonardo DiCaprio was going to play Patrick Bateman in American Psycho - but depending on who's story you believe - the directors wanted Bale all along - or DiCaprio's agent got to him and told him after the success of Titantic - the last thing he should be doing was playing fun loving Bateman and DiCaprio pulled out after being chosen.

Yes, I think Tom Selleck was chosen for Indiana Jones, but he wasn't allowed to take the time off from Magnum and had to turn it down. Hard to imagine DiCaprio in American Psycho, with his Good Boy persona!

Ooooof. Wonder if he regrets that. You'd have to imagine he would have made more money off of Indy or no - think he cleans up pretty good with Magnum P.I. in syndication?
Reminds me of a basketball player. Name was Nerlens Noel - it's been years - may have the number wrong - but I think it may have been around $70 million or so for 4 years from the Dallas Mavericks - he turned it down. Pretty much bet on himself that he was worth much more than that and was going to try and get a larger contract - turned out he flat out sucked and should have jumped at that opportunity when it presented itself.
Ever since he's been hanging around the league just signing 1 years deals or so worth a couple of a million (still a lot of change but a far cry from $70 mil)

I just started watching the HBO show "Succession" with Brian Cox.
Cox is great as usual, I find most of the other parts are very miscast. Barely keeping my interest.
Also have way through first season of Dark.

The original Rocky is a masterpiece and you sort of get hooked on the character and feel obligated to watch the other movies in the series - Hanks is tremendous in Philadelphia as well - IMO his best movie - it's a touching and heartwarming look at a person who is being discriminated against and how cutthroat and evil big business can be.
2 of my favorite movies.
