Very unique movie. Ending was rather sad/disturbing. Nicole Kidman has aged incredibly well. Do you think there was a supernatural element? The boy seemed to have the power to control who got sick and how-- maybe a pact with the devil? For someone as lean and blonde as Kidman is, yes she's still sexy. I think she got implants though. Absolutely.
He came through on his words - i.e. he was able to paralyze them, make their eyes bleed - the parents saw they were screwed - which resulted in the Sophie's Choice ending.
Evil kid was a great creepy actor - he played the role well. I enjoyed the ending as disturbing as it was - left the question open of what becomes of the daughter and the evil kid - they obviously still had feelings for each other - wonder if they get back together years down the road.
Thanks for the rec - it was an original movie. Reminded me a somewhat of Chronicle and Brightburn - i.e. - kids who have powers but instead of using them for good - they're evil.

Just turned off 'Knives Out' with Daniel Craig and Jamie Lee Curtis - was an hour into it - whata stinker
Just turned on 'Mississippi Burning' with Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe - never seen it - thinking it's a keeper since I like Hackman and Dafoe - but i thought the same with 'Knives Out' with Craig and Curtis

Not a great movie, but excellent fun to watch racist Southerners get bitch slapped. 99% of the time if I start a movie, I'll finish. I think that the last movie I didn't finish was Boondock Saints, and I probably tried that like eight years ago. I did it tonight. Husbands (1970) is awful. Three completely loathsome characters winging it for interminable scenes - - 10 minutes Family Guy-style scenes with zero payoff. Got about 1:30 into a 2:20 movie and just said "fuck it".

Lost Highway
Let's give it a whirl - just like all Lynch movies - I've heard good and bad things about this - I'm guessing by the end of this Lynch leaves me scratching my head asking myself what I just watched....has an All-Star cast to it - so I'm thinking I'll be able to stick with it

But if it is on Netflix, it doesn't take much for me to ditch a crappy movie.

I ditched Lost Highway. It had a Mulholland Drive smell to it.
So I put on an old favorite I've seen a zillion and 10 times and never get tired of - Night of the Living Dead

I watched Extraction (2020) on Netflix the other night. Very good action flick starring Chris Hemsworth, I was impressed by the action sequences as well as the overall script. These Netflix action genre productions are usually terrible, but I would've paid money to see this in the theater and wouldn't have been disappointed. Fantastic action choreography, interesting characters (well there are a few stock villains, but overall you're invested in these people and their story as much as you need to be in an actioner), clever dialog and a not too subtle but at the same time not overwrought overarching theme about fathers and sons. Watch for the cameo from David Harbour. I'm not saying every project he's in is worth watching, but if it isn't, it wasn't his fault.
So yeah, I highly recommend this one if you're looking for a shoot em up with a bit of a heart.

The Morton Downey Jr. Movie
What a legend.
Some of his shows are on Youtube - seems like one of the innovators of the trash tv talk shows - i.e. the Jerry Springers - but Mort seems to talk about politics and social issues a lot which IMO makes them a bit more interesting instead of trailer trash not knowing who the father of the baby is

Too often I fight to the bitter end, so you know I really didn't like something if I say "enough is enough".

Generally speaking, I can make it through 2 hours. It's pretty rare that I'll just give up on something and it takes something pretty specific to turn me off, but most commonly it's inferior craft or an impossibly annoying performance. I don't mean something like Vast of Night which is among the lowest budget movies I've seen in recent years (and it shows) but they employed a wealth of creative techniques to make up for it. Honestly, I can't even remember the last movie I gave up on without finishing it. Shows I'll give 4-5 episodes or so as those tend to take a few episodes to find their groove for the most part, with some exceptions of course. Hell, I even made it through 4 seasons or so (I think) of The Walking Dead before finally throwing in the towel!

I didn't finish Orange is the New Black, Better Call Saul, Narcos, Peaky Blinders, dropped two years of Mad Men towards the end (but came back for the last year), etc. The commitment is too deep there for waning interest.

If I start a movie I'll finish it sooner or later. What's a movie on average, 120 minutes at most? That's doable. TV shows not so much. Most times I'm going to choose to watch 100% of a 90 minute movie over 10% of a show (2 out of 20 45-minute episodes).

I never saw the Color of Money.
What's the story behind this?
For what it's worth I was distracted a bit while watching it - felt Cruise was tremendous as he typically is - but I don't get the Jamie Foxx love that's been going on for years.

It's just something I made up for fun. The Color of Money is a sequel to The Hustler, both films are about pool hustling. Paul Newman stars in both films, which are fantastic by the way. Anyway Tom Cruise plays Vince, the young hotshot pool player in The Color of Money. I was rewatching it a few years back and I thought it could use a sequel, this time with Cruise as the aging legend. How could you make the ageless Cruise look older? I don't know give him the haircut he had in Collater-- and then it hit me, Cruise's character in Collateral is named Vincent! Vince moved on from hustling in pool halls into exceedingly darker corners of the criminal underworld, where the money is better, the stakes are higher and you know not to trust anyone. It's a fun idea, I already liked Collateral and this concept gave it more texture the next time I saw it. It certainly isn't required head canon for the film, but it adds to my personal appreciation of it.

I like it.
I've heard stories about the movie above I was talking about above - Lost Highway - how some fans state exists in the same universe (i.e. there are links if you look hard enough) as Twin Peaks. Huge Peaks fan - but just couldn't sit through Lost Highway - had '0' interest in it - was abysmal.
Know of any other famous movies out there that may be linked if you choose to look hard enough or reach far enough for a connection?

People say all the Tarantino films exist in the same universe because they reference each other all the time. Same thing with all the Pixar films, though I think those are just Easter Eggs the graphic designers add to the background, I don't think the stories are supposed to be connected. I haven't seen enough Pixar films to provide good examples, it's just a theory I've heard.
