www.golf.com/instruction/putting/2020/03/13/should-you-use-line-on-golf-ball-top-100-teacher/Kellie Stenzel, Boca Raton Resort & Club Some golfers should use a line on their putter when they putt and others should not depending upon their putting style. If a golfer likes to pick a specific point to putt to β a small target six inches right and three feet short, for example β then go ahead and use a line. This allows the golfer to aim perfectly and when they are stroking the putt, they can simply attempt to control distance. The golfer who naturally βseesβ the break without over-analyzing should not use the line on the ball. This golfer who has this built in ability often will over-play the break when they use the line, making their result less effective. The bottom line is each and every golfer is different and unique and each golfer should determine individually what works best for them.

I think that would make it pretty hard to snort.

I do, yet mostly so everyone knows my ball in the weeds. It's the simplest marking I go with before teeing off, not for alignment. For that I 'cheat' teeing up a couple inches in from the far tee box marker thing (block of wood usually) because it's a visual copy of my range experience. That is a huge mental plus, like there's a miniature wall reminding me things for impact. On the green, I'm just another putt into an imaginary circle kinda player. Those are very simple tips that work for me, & thus enable more enjoyable play.

Probably. When I play pool, I'd rather shoot for stripes than solids because I don't have reference markings on solids.

Golfers trying to line up their putting line with the line drawn on the ball take waaaaay too much time. In the interest of speeding up the game....no lines.

I never did. I made a point of making sure that I did not see any markings on my ball including brand names, numbers, etc. I was a decent putter

^^ That's the way I always putted, no markings at all in my line of vision. I used my imagination and power of projection to start the ball on what I hoped was the right path. I was always an above-average putter.
