On April 11th, 1976, a young woman was found dead in a canyon near Lopez Canyon County in Los Angeles County, California. It's believed that the woman had been dead for up to a week prior to the discovery of the body, and the body was beginning to skeletonise. Evidence found on the scene led investigators to believe this young woman had either been stabbed or shot.
Despite having been murdered almost 44 years ago, this woman has never been identified. She's commonly referred to as the San Fernando Jane Doe due to the proximity of the body to San Fernando--it's only a ten minute drive from San Fernando to the Lopez Canyon Road. However, some sources will also refer to her as the Lopez Canyon Jane Doe due to her being found about ninety feet from the road.
It's believed that the woman was between 16 and 26, but she was most likely around 20. She was a white woman with brown eyes. Her hair went to the middle of her back and was brown or auburn, however there were some traces of dark blonde near the roots. Her eyebrows were plucked.
San Fernando Jane Doe was likely between 5'3" and 5'8" in height (about 160-172 centremetres). It's estimated that she weighed between 130 and 150 pounds (between 59 and 68 kilos). She had a silver cap on her upper left first molar, and her lower right first molar had been absent for several years prior to her death. She had a scar on her lower right leg.
She was found wearing a medium sized tan long-sleeved blouse with elastic cuffs and a brown or rust coloured tree pattern. This blouse was made by the company Styled in California and illustrations of the woman show her wearing it in a midriff style. She wore purple bell bottom pants with two inch cuffs and two metal snaps at the front.
Her panties were light green. No bra was found at the scene. A brown cotton and suede Londontown by Checkpoint jacket was found at the scene. No jewelry was found at the scene and the Jane Doe is believed to have had no tattoos. She wore black clog shoes with heavy leather straps and four inch heels with a 3/4 inch crepe sole.
Unfortunately, identifying this woman has proved difficult partially due to the fact that her fingerprints aren't available. Her dental records are, however.
