Thanks for mentioning this , Nora . I will check this out , when viewing is a little slower . I got the chance to watch The Spy series which you recommended in another post on Tv General . That was certainly very well done and a well-worth-it watch , Thanks ! It was great to see Sacha Cohen deliver the goods in an outstanding dramatic performance . Such a good and well put-together miniseries , although the flash-forward in the intro (which gives too much away) and the real footage at the end before the credits , should maybe be put in the extras rather than in the series itself .
A member (Honolulu) mentioned a new series here , Dispatches from Elsewhere from AMC . I think you can stream from AMC , if you subscribe and pay . A light comedy mystery series, it seems to have - Jason Segel, Sally Field and Richard Grant in it. I'm generally watching new series on either Netflix or Amazon Prime .

glad you liked the Spy, I really really enjoyed that one. Will check out the Dispatches, the cast looks great. As far as Little Fires - I finished the 3 episodes in one sitting so obviously didnt hate it just wish they kept truer to the book. The added PC aspect feels somewhat forced.

I never read the book, which is unusual for me, so I went into the series with an open mind. I can't say I'm loving it but it's enough to keep me watching. Time for Reese Witherspoon to switch gears. This character is a duplicate of the one she played in Big Little Lies.

both of the main female protagonists are so annoying and not really good people so its kinda a turn off. both are so melodramatic and manipulative and hypocritical and preachy.
the moms are simply horrible. i am a fan of Moody and Pearl though. and the lawyer dad.

Nora , how are you coping with the cinema lockdown? I have plenty of vhs and dvd's at home, don't stream, and stuff on you tube to watch. I should have seen Invisible Man, before they closed the damn cinemas. surprisingly enough its not As Bad as I thought it would be. Mostly because I am not actually "missing" any releases. If the cinemas were still open and showing new movies and it was just that I couldnt go there I think that would drive me crazy. But this way, since I caught up and saw all the releases up to the very they they closed, it doesnt feel as bad. I only watch series at home, like I always have. BUT ask me again in 6 months when I have seen the entire collection of series available on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and Pornhub 5 times and will resort to watching films at home like a chimp

I'm hooked to this series. I love it. I did read the book, too. I think Kerry Washington is doing an amazing job, as is the girl playing izzy. Reese is doing an amazing impersonation of a horrible bitch.
I never saw little big lies, but may watch it next.

watched the finale. 6/10 overal for the show.
its basically about spoilt rich american kids having a problem with growing up rich with two loving parents. pfff. cry me a river.
also. pearls mother seemed to have done much worse things to her daughter (lied for most of her life and robbed her of a father - thats pretty bad in my book) than elena to her children. yet we were guided to feel otherwise.
good acting but otherwise felt too pretentious.

I don’t think you really got it at all if that’s what you were left with. You can love your kids and not be a loving parent. Her kids had everything they could possibly want and were all tucked up, all of them and one of them was resented from the moment she was conceived. Mia’s parenting was messed up because they had to live on the run but she was a loving parent and her child was messed up too. It’s a little deeper than your summary especially when you add race and entitlement to the picture. To each his own and it wasn’t your cup of tea which is fine but your summary of the show isn’t exactly accurate.

I get what you are saying about Elenas relatiionship toward Lizzy but we never Really saw she would resent her. They had typical teenage daughter- mom problems in my eyes, that is until she told her she never wanted her in the first place. But that was the Only place where it was really shown. the rest, like smile at photos, dress differently, domt talk back, dont go out at night etc, thats normal parenting (not saying its a best one but its no sign of her really resenting her). I saw she was loved (but also spoilt) the wrong in the mother was wanting her to be just like her sister/her but I didnt see resentment. And Mia did more than just living on the run. She stole generic material from the father, she robbed her dayghter of her father growing up - that Milion times worse than whatever Elena ever did (that we Saw). now u can argue that Lizzy Felt resented. Sure. But the audience was not really shown the mother resenting her as much as wanting her to not be different. Which is not the biggest crime parents can do. To me its still about spoilt rich kids, one somewhat bad mother and one horrible mother. the only relationship where I genuinly cared about and where there was a real justified drama for the people in it was Bebe and the other mother. Both seemed like loving(albeit one desperate) mothers in Horrible situation but they kept their humanity in my eyes the most. dont get me wrong i think the show was well made and the acting was amazing but the kids were all annoying brats except Pearl.

As far as Mia living on the run and doing far worse I think that’s one of the points of the show. For me, it’s not so much of who was worse as much as how money, race and general station in life doesn’t determine what kind of mother you will be. Yes, Mia stole her daughter but ultimately she’s her daughter as well as his which doesn’t make it right by any means but was the desperate couple entirely right? You’re correct in that we didn’t directly know about the resentment for Izzy until we got to the episode showing her getting pregnant however what we saw up to that point was that she didn’t like her very much. What you call ‘normal’ wasn’t normal to me. You could especially see it in how the dad intervened. I’m glad you watched this show, it’s good to have someone to talk with!
