Did you ever read this as a kid?
I didn't, I saw the movie as a kid, it was years before I found out it was a book, and I never got the book to read until I was an adult, I loved it. Very different from the movie, to be expected, but I never really got the beginning when Golly takes Harriet to meet her mom...I can't figure out how her mom could live on her own if she always needed someone else to tell her what to do, and how Golly turned out so independent then if that's what she grew up with.
I like though how you can find several Nazi references in this children's book, definitely doubt that would ever be done today or that anybody would expect the kids to catch them.
