The last season was terrible. It was rushed and a betrayal of all that had come before it, in quality, storytelling, character arcs, etc. etc. Appointing Bran as King was a very bad decision. i had no issues at him being king. After all he was better than any Lannister selection and Jon was so obvious I would have despised it. I didn’t think Dany’s arc ended well at all. Even if that turns out in the books Martin will have a thousand pages to evolve it. As you said, if he becomes king in the books, Martin will have made sense of it. In the series it made zero sense as he had no experience whatsoever, not to mention his rag-tag 'council' members, except for Tyrion. I would have preferred Jon to either Bran or Sansa, to be honest. I hated how they ended Jon and Dany's story arcs.

The man claims to like history and never understood any of it.

Bran felt like a bad choice because he doesn't seem qualified...and they literally had him turn down his Lordship a few episodes earlier. The only character left alive that they kind of built up a possible Kingship around was Sansa. She was really the only main player that showed the capacity to rule to a competent degree. If they do go with Bran in the books I hope they flesh out that decision better than the show, is all. That's the thing. NO ONE is qualified to run Westeros. I can't think of a single solitary person fit to run the kingdom (Dany was close, but they made her a crazy person), which is why I thought the best thing would be to get rid of the whole united kingdom. The ones that were qualified were too soft for the job and got killed. If everyone sucks at it, then get the person that sucks the least and wouldn't have a dog in the fight.

Jon sucked at it (Someone isn't good leader just because people like them). Sansa only wanted the North.

Cersei was. Scum didn't like her, of course.
