Is there any way in which GEKIJOU-BAN POKETTO MONSUTA: MYUTSU NO GYAKUSHU - EVOLUTION (POKEMON THE 1ST MOVIE: MEWTWO STRIKES BACK - EVOLUTION) improves on GEKIJOU-BAN POKETTO MONSUTA: MYUTSU NO GYAKUSHU (POKEMON THE 1ST MOVIE: MEWTWO STRIKES BACK)? Well, it doesn't pointlessly hide Myutsu/Mewtwo to the audience between for 20 minutes (after being shown throughout the prologue). It's not the best solution ( when I wrote my comments about the franchise, I suggested cutting that installment's prologue altogether), but at least it's something. The only other difference that really caught my attention was how Kasumi/Misty gets scared when she sees a Gyaradosu/Gyarados. It's not a wild Pokemon (meaning that it's owned by a human), so she should instinctively know that it's not dangerous. Hell, wasn't she's the leader of a gym that specializes on water type Pokemon?! And... That's about it. It's almost a shot-for-shot remake that repeats 99% of the same mistakes. The original movie's 2D animation was weak compared to bigger anime productions (like Studio Ghibli's), but because it was better than the show's animation, I could still appreciate it. Here, they employ 3D animation. The characters' movements are less static, but the designs and the rendering are as ugly as a Kusaihana/Gloom. When will that asshole wipe the hanging drool off its mouth?! Who is this movie even for?! Fans who grew up with the franchise will probably hate how everything is worse by comparison, or maybe they'll be annoyed by the redundancy. Young fans probably won't care about the characters who don't appear in the show anymore nor the first generation of these creatures (around 650 new species have been introduced since 1999). 0/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
