Godfather's post got me thinking about how, even when there are only a few cases in your area, you can still be unlucky and end up one of those few cases. I worry for my parents because my dad seems to think that just because there are so few cases in our county (I think 14 at last count) that he can just go out and about, and it's a constant battle to convince him to stay home. Yesterday my mom asked me to talk to him because he was insisting that he didn't care what she said, he was going out tomorrow (which would have been today) to get toilet bowl cleaner... because that's absolutely necessary right now, I guess? I talked to him, and he agreed to stay home. Now he's saying that he's going to go into his church to do some cleaning (he picks up a few extra bucks cleaning the church). Trying to convince him to wait until Friday, when the Church is guaranteed to be empty, because on Thursdays there are people going in and out. But no, he insists on going tomorrow (i.e. Thursday). Why? Because he said so, that's why. My mom is being smart and hasn't left the house in two weeks, but I worry that her vigilance will mean little if my dad brings back a bug. They are both elderly and not in great health.
Anyone else find themself having to convince people to "shelter in place"?

Why are people going in and out of church on Thursdays? Is it one of those weird white people cults?

She goes 2-3 times a week. she wears a home made mask but thats not gonna protect her really. so i worry. trying to talk her into only going once a week if at all...

Before Covid-19, my dad would be at the store every other day pretty much, because he just likes socialising. Just about every employee knows him by name, and he chats with them all. Trying to get in in his head that this has to change for the time being.

Here in southeastern WI, people are aghast that they're still planning on going ahead with the spring election next week Tuesday, as scheduled (even though the Governor has been forced to bring in members of the Wisconsin Army National Guard to help with the shortfall of poll workers unavailable to work the election due to the Coronavirus)..... Catwoman isn't allowed to leave the facility where she lives except for appointments with physicians. They interpret that as only things essential for keeping a person alive, such as dialysis. Heck, they even don't want residents to leave their rooms, except for those who need supervision when eating or for physical therapy. And for a lot of the physical therapy, they're just doing what they can in the residents' rooms.
As for Catman, he tries to get out for a walk when people are not around, and he goes out for errands sparingly.
Miko and Katsura are happy to stay inside and play with their toys.

My daughter is home from college and about to go bonkers. She went to the park a couple times but is starting to get cranky. Yesterday we got an unexpected visitor, a young friend of the family in emotional crisis -- we made him wash his hands and restricted him to one room.

I am getting nigh on terminal earache from my kids. The daughter has even roped in the grandchildren although I have advised her that if I get anymore of their nonsense they can say goodbye to any help with living expenses when they go to uni.
I shall be glad when this kerfuffle blows over. At least Extinction Rebellion had lots of pretty girls dancing int the streets, but Covid 19 is just plain boring.

Yesterday we got an unexpected visitor, a young friend of the family in emotional crisis -- we made him wash his hands and restricted him to one room. Our almost-30-year-old daughter thinks it's okay to go jogging in one of the county parks nearby when she comes to stay on-and-off alternate weeks. I told her that they shut down all county parks, and the entrance and exits are barricaded. She thinks she can park around the corner on one of the side streets and go on the jogging paths. * silent shriek* I told her no, that the police are really cracking down since last time she was here. She could go jogging in our neighborhood which is flat and goes for two and a half miles when you traverse all the streets. Hardly anyone is out, so she'd have the neighborhood to herself. Our accountant's daughter who lives in California told her she was going to go to a couple of book stores and then walk along the beach. * silent shriek* Her daughter and my daughter went to school together and are the same age. I wonder how they don't think this is more than serious?

Some people just won't live in fear and I don't blame them.
sure, it's probably best he stays home when he can. but if you got to go out, then screw it, do it. just be careful on where your hands have been and be sure to wash them when you get back to the house and you will probably be fine.

I'm afraid if they shut the parks then more people will make unnecessary trips to the grocery. About half the people in there are only buying 1 or 2 things as it is.

I chalk it up to being an old people thing. Today I found out that my parents (who are both elderly) had gone to the supermarket this morning. They said that the store was only allowing elderly people in at that time of day, but even so, as I told my mother "You don't know if any of those people are sick". I don't think she even wore gloves for the outing. And I suspect that a lot of elderly people are like that, that they don't really think of the possibility of contracting the virus when they go somewhere. I'm not at all one of those people who are paranoid about the virus -- just the opposite, it bothers me when I see people online being paranoid. But even then, I worry for my parents.

People are completely insane out on the road. I was almost in a side-impact collision when somebody blew through a red light while traveling to the supermarket for essentials. Had I been off by a few seconds, I wouldn't be here right now. This comment sums it up perfectly:
Tell your friends and loved ones to stay home unless they absolutely must go out. Some drivers are taking COVID-19 as a sign that traffic laws don't apply to them anymore.

It's why America has the highest amount of cases, because other governments can control their people in ways the American government can't. Other nations can literally force you to stay home, as well as require those infected to download an app that tracks the location data on their phone, to make sure they're staying home, as well as alert others when they are nearby.
Good idea, but those things wouldn't fly in America. Do we want less freedom to save more lives?

Maybe not. The UK government has banned everything except a really dirty thought, but little is being enforced. It has been chilly recently but a heatwave (well, heatwave by UK standards) is expected this weekend and I doubt that many folk will sit inside and miss our annual three days of summer. I notice that all the priggish threats have been left to Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary while Boris Johnson (who realises that a reaction is building up) has restricted himself to waving his hands in the air and trying not to lose too many votes over this kerfuffle.

On the subject: after saying he was just going to the car to listen to music, my dad went to the store to get some stuff to make soup. Keep in mind there was plenty of food at home, but he wanted soup.
