Easy process online and got a text a few days later confirming I have been registered but not to do anything further and wait for a phone call. I won't likely have my job to go back too. Sorry to hear that Toasted Cheese, I feel bad for you. Hope everything works out. Hang in there!

would love to but i dont qualify I don't know about the US, but in OZ and NZ, those stood down are not having to go through means and income testing. Even owners of their own businesses are getting some support package. I was not laid off, I quit myself, just before the crisis escalated... NY has a “through no fault of your own” approach.

I quit my job voluntarily, just before corona got bad... Oh no. I hope you have a savings. You still get that 1,200 dollar check.

You made over 99 thousand dollars? If so, I guess you don't need a 1,200 dollar check.

I did, but like I said, account for 3 years before that on 25/year. sometimes projects dont come or some of them simply pay out 2-3 years in the future and I have to live off of savings or scrape by before that. now i have nothing coming up again till next year. will i survive somehow? most likely yes. are there other people that need it more? also yes. would i return the money or be upset if it came? probably not.

I will try later. I mean, you can't buy a gun when you're crying - so I might as well file for unemployment.

I might have to soon.
I'm technically not "laid off" - my office has closed for the month, and I'm working one day a week doing paperwork. However, our income has been cut. At the same time, I can't be without a month's income. I have a house payment, vehicle, cell phone bill plus credit card bills automatically deducted all the time, so I need a constant money flow deposited into my accounts. So I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem there getting it.
On the plus side, I'm losing a lot of weight. Because at work, I'd get Panchero's, Chipotle, and/or Starbucks on my lunch breaks. And now, I can't afford food. Ha. I bought some cereal and a bag of apples to last me a week.

So, if you stopped paying your mortgage or rent, no fear of consequences.

I could live off toast with Vegemite and tea if I had too. There is also potatoes mushrooms and peas. Variety is the spice of life, but sometimes, one just has to take what is thrown at you. same. had rice with garlic as the only ingredience yesterday, toast with marmite and tea today and its ok. starving is not one of the things that scare me. humans doing rotten things to each other does.

I'm not even afraid of that. People down here have been pretty civilized about the whole thing. And I've told myself, "Okay, you may not be able to get everything exactly the way you want. But, you can get something. If you can't get exactly what you're used to getting, it's a good time to try something new or different. "

That is why I never liked automatic deductions. And then there's the circa 2000 story of a German guy who had his rent, utilities, etc. automatically deducted from his bank account. Once the transactions started bouncing, an investigator was sent to his apartment, who discovered he'd been dead for three years. His neighbors were asked if they had noticed anything unusual and they said, "There was a bad smell, and then it went away!"
